Ok. Weird little thing happened where when I turned my computer on, the sound drivers, etc are all installed and recognized by WinXP but still no sound comes out and the volume control says no devices are installed. Problem goes away when I reboot. Just wondering if anyone knows what's up with that. Thanks

More importantly, do you have a Creative sound card?

Ok, it's your creative drivers. Creative sound cards are good, but their drivers suck. Try running a Google search for Creative drivers. I think Compaq makes drivers too...

You might want to run run windowsupdate, www.windowsupdate.com and see if Windows has any certified drivers available for it. I know it does, just depends on whether they have been installed already and whether they have been updated with a newer version. Also, if they have, you could try to roll back the driver to an older version that worked.
