Sicilian officials thought they had an ironclad reason for covering up one statue’s private parts. They bolted iron underwear to a stallion statue, thinking the naked figure might embarrass a religious parade bearing the image of the Virgin Mary. Others thought the cover-up was totally silly. "It is almost inconceivable that in the third millennium, someone should cover a horse's private parts for the Madonna," said local animal welfare campaigner Alfio Lisi. The spiritual procession was set to go past the bronze statue in the city of Catania on Tuesday night. Guess this story puts a whole new twist on the Italian Stallion term.

There is a rather full history of such censorship. Most of the Vatican was painted with nudes. A later Pope had them all touched up with loincloths and such. Theyve spent the last 15 years trying to restore it all.

They covered up a STATUE for an IMAGE of the virgin Mary?!?! Whose to say Mary's not out looking at a real horse somewhere?
