My amaryllises (sp?) are doing really well this year. I'll have to take some pictures and post them. I haven't done any work on them this year, but I think the weeding and fertilizing I did last year really helped out. I'm probably going to have to dig them up and separate some of them this fall. (Maybe I should read up on how to take care of them.)
(*cough* Looking at some of the closeups, I think Georgia O'Keefe might've been on to something... either that, or my mind is running in a certain direction this evening.)

They actually evolved like that on purpose, and the bottom 'tongue' is a resting place for insects that pollinate them.
I frequent www.gardenweb.com. My favorite forum is Balcony Gardening even though I don't have a balcony. The people there are awesome.
