Nintendo DS - question

My son has a DS system, and I'm told that there are 'ways' of getting homegrown and <ahem> downloaded games to run on it..providing I have the right hardware. Anyone know about this?

I found a Wiki page on different setups before the PM came in - but it's all over the place. Gave opinions on each type, but no overall rating (best vs worst), and certainly no comparisson contrast.

ahh, here's a ds question: am i correct that if you just want to browse the internet from a ds, you need a card? like the opera card thing?
