Oakland may declare state of emergency over police staffing

"The fractious dispute could prompt the Oakland City Council to declare a state of emergency on Tuesday and allow Police Chief Wayne Tucker to redeploy officers as he sees fit, regardless of opposition from the Oakland Police Officers Association."

"In the first 2 1/2 months of 2006, there have been 26 murders and a marked increase in the number of assaults, robberies and shootings."

Sounds like the public should pay up soon. or live with a rash more of murders.

That's in my city, about half the size of Oakland.

yea glad to live in a smaller town for sure here. even the big fort wayne or indy doesnt have it that bad.

Just about all the murders have been concentrated in two general areas of the city where I never have any reason to go. I've been wondering what's going on this year that caused the big spike.
