So I'm working at a Haunted School...

for the Halloween season. And I gotta say it's pretty fun. I've never gone through a haunted house/school/graveyard/etc. as a guest. Just worked a few. I think it's more fun trying to scare people than being the one walking through hoping someone can scare me.

This a pretty nice set up too. It's in a small town and the school isn't a school anymore. It's owned by the guy who runs the whole operation. So there's knocked out walls, crumbling plaster, broken windows, the works.
It's called Acres of Terror. There's also a corn maze.

Just thought I'd share.

Edit: Website since a google search revealed there is more than one Acres of Terror in the US.

It's definitely for the grown-ups... or maybe the teenagers. We had a couple kids come through last night. They needed an escort who was doing his best to surreptitiously let us know to tone it down as they went by. All I did was stand there and look at them and one of the boys was crying.

But we definitely gear our show for the older audience.

That's good. I was wondering about the Beer Gardens :lloyd:

But anyway, that job should be a laugh riot!

I don't know about any beer gardens. But then I'm not working at the other part... the corn maze. The maze and the school are on opposite sides of town, which isn't far considering the size of the town. There's a bus that ferries people back and forth, which is part of the experience. I haven't been on it, but the way the bus careens around the school when it gets here looks fun. And the kids are always screaming their heads off.

Turns out the school doesn't just have a run-down atmosphere. It really is run down. Complete with leaky roof. It rained all day before tonight's run. I had to walk up an down wet hallways with water dripping down... which was kind of cool, though. It added to the atmosphere.
When the floors got too wet, we just squeegeed it down a row of vents that I assume just opened into the lower level or something. One guy had to keep going downstairs to make sure the sump pump was still working.
And we had to be careful when we pushed the water down, since the lower level is part of the maze, too.

LOL. I didn't read all the info on the site. That page layout gives me a headache. Yeah, the "beer gardens" is a bar a block or so away from the school. I'm not sure but I think the owners of the bar are also the owners of Acres of Terror, or just really good friends with each other.

I was wrong about the beer garden. Turns out there is an actual beer garden. It's right next to the corn maze, so I haven't seen it. And I don't know where the maze is. I like working in the school. :)
