The inaudible signal is what triggers auto format stations to do whatever they do. It's great when one miscues & silence fills the airwaves. Paul Harvey is usually triggered by auto tones.

You'd be amazed what all is programmed that way, how simple it is to do, and how easy it is to screw up. I've done all three.

Me too.

Somwhere in the bottom of one of my closets (I think) is an auto-reversing TEAC reel to reel that uses that same aluminum splicing tape to trigger the auto-reverse. If I get the energy to dig it out I'll post a pic.
