Whatr are the best concerts you've ever seen?

I'll give my top-ten -- because I've seen alot of cool concerts...and I'm old (34).

10) Lollapalooza 1 --1991 I think -- The Rollins Band, Butthole Surfters, Ice-T, Living Colour, Nine Inch Nails, Siouxie and the Banshees, Janes Addiction.

I'd seen about 3 of these bands before but it was great to see all these groups together in front of so many people. A great time.

9) Parliament-Funkadelic -- 2000 -- 10 funky-ass old folks funkin' up a storm

8) The Who (with Heart and J. Geils) 1978 -- The Who were a little past their prime but they still rocked. I was very into them at the time. This one would be higher on my list if I hadn't gone to the concert with my mother (I begged her to take me). I was 11 years old.
7) The (English) Beat -- 1982 -- They were one of the great British Ska groups. It was a small room -- maybe 400 people -- and everyone danced their asses off.

6) Peter Tosh. 1977 -- He was one of the Wailers in Bob Marley and the Wailers and wrote some of their best songs. After Bob Marley, Tosh is considered the (2nd) greatest Reggae artist. It was a free concert at an amusement park (Ontario Place). I feel very fortunate to have seen him. He was shot dead a few years later.

5) Motorhead with Slayer -- :headbang: 1988 -- I saw Metallica a year earlier but this was an incredible metal show in front of about 500 people. Easily the loudest concert I've ever seen.

4) Run-DMC with Public Enemy -- 1988 -- Run-DMC were THE top rap group of their day. Public Enemy were unknown at the time...but they brought the noise.

3) The Ramones -- 1982 -- 50 2 minutes songs. Fun Fun Fun.

2) James Brown -- 1987 -- The Godfather of Soul and Funk and another free concert (at Ontario Place). He was incredible.

1) The Rolling Stones at the Horseshoe -- 1998 -- The Horseshoe is a small club in Toronto -- it holds only about 300 people. It was a secret concert that I found out about because the sound-guy was a friend and I happened to run into him that day. They played for about 1.5 hours -- strictly hits. They were in town warming up for their big tour. It was just unreal to be so close to such big stars and hear 'Start Me Up', etc right in your face. John Goodman and Dan Ackroyd were there working the bar dressed like the Blues Brothers. I tipped Goodman a loonie (a Canadian dollar) for the beer he served me.

Honourable mention -- Nirvana at Lees Palace -- 1991 --. There were only about 50 people there. I didn't even plan to go. My girlfriend and I were walking past the club and I suggested we check it out because I'd heard of them. They were basically unknown at the time outside of the 'scene'. I would put them on the list but frankly they weren't very good. They became much much better.

That's my list. I've been to other good concerts but these are probabaly the best.

What are your best concerts?

i saw mike watt last week for the second time & he was once again amazing.

superdrag in orlando (& really anywhere else you can catch them) was awsome.

the warped tour abt 5 or 6 years ago, (the descendents, social distortion & the mighty might bosstones) it ruled.

Concerts? Not that many oportunities in Rural MN. Luckily bands are coming to Fargo and Grand Forks more often.

Ranking is damn hard.....

I guess I would have to almost say a tie between

The Extreme Steel Tour 2001, Pantera, Static X, Slayer (who I thought sucked and I literally sat down during it almost falling asleep) however Pantera rocked the house. Never had seen them in concert and though not that huge of a fan it ranked up there very very highly. They really put on a damn good show and rocked loud and clear. (3-4 rows back whole time during Pantera)

I woudl next next is AC/DC they came last summer as well. Amazing they even showed up in Fargo and I had bad bleeder seats but even across the damn stadium they rocked. The whole stands were rocked and I haven't seen a concert yet that filled the Fargo Dome that much and had the people in the stands into it so much.

Merry Mayhem, back in Nov Ozzy, Zombie, Mudvayne all showed up in Grand Forks, another suprise. Almost saw Black Sabbath and Pantera few years back but they canceled. Zombie was sub par but still played good. Ozzy was kinda a bitch in my opinion but that makes sense being ti was the 1st show back from his broken leg. THis ranks up there simply because it was Ozzy and he actaulyl came to Grand Forks, ND.

Others I have seen include

Korn with Zombie (overall good show but not a corn fan at all)

Page and Plant...first concert and thus will always hold a place. Amazing to see these guys touring and pretty much made me a Zepplin fan on the spot.

Megadeth and Static X etc. Decent show in the small Fargo civic and can't complain about seeing Megadeth.

Zombie and Sinistar. Just like a month ago. Best I have seen zombie play period. Amazing Sinistar the opening band rocked out. Every other show I have seen had a shitty opening back but Sinistar though totally unknown was a great act.

Oh, the Incubus one was the best, BTW. Screw the elitist muso gigs that I used to go to! Now I just ROCK.

one of the sound guys at that show was a guy called M. Lynch - works for the company that rigged for the show. So did my hubby up to last year. Was just wondering if your guy was the same guy, small world after all :)

My favorite would by the Michael Jackson HIStory concert a few years back.

Other than that, it would be concerts by local artists: Kekuhi Kanahele, Kealii Reichel, etc ... :D

How many of you even know who even one of these bands are? All were a good time in a small all ages club in Tacoma, WA, USA called "The Community World Theater". It didnt even hold 500 people and no show was ever more than $10. It is long since been put out of bussiness and in the ex porno theater, ex punk rock club is now an evangelical church. Thats truly sick and evil.

chili peppers at reading [1994] was fantastic - for the encore they came on wearing flaming fireman's hats.

massive attack at cardiff [1998] just too damn good, they were playing the mezzanine tour with liz fraser from the cocteau twins. she's about 3ft tall but her voice is incredible.

the cure at cardiff [1996] 3 hour show, utterly depressing )

curve in london [1997], it was their comeback gig and i got chatting to a bouncer. he passed me a back-stage pass, i got posters, met the band, great night

Anybody ever hear of Rusted Root? They were one of my favorites for a long time. They had two songs that made it on the radio 'Send Me On My Way' and 'Cat Turned Blue' and one song that I still hear in movie commercials 'Ecstasy'. I saw them at SUNY Oneonta, they were great.

Pad, I'm so jealous. I would have loved to see alot of those people, especially Led Zepplin.

The Mentors were supposed to play here but couldn't get across the border. So I've never seen them. But I have a couple of their records -- I think one of them is called 'You Axed for It".

Coffin Break -- don't know them

NoMeansNo -- I've seen them live a couple of times. The are pretty intense live. I've also seen them play as their hockey-goon alter-ego band 'The Hanson Brothers'.
