If unionized workers were able to buy better homes, or better quality of food etc, then I'd agree with you, but this seems closer to greed. t'me.

Didn't know you weren't unionized Gonz...never said so. I'd brought up unionised truckers earning $67k+ driving beer trucks for Labatt as I recall. If you own your own rig and work freelance...great for you. If you own your own rig and work per mile etc... you're working for your cash...the harder you work, the more you make...Kudos. If you're unionized and work on a yearly salary, secured by the union regardless of how much or little that you work...THAT is unfair.

I'm not fond of unions. I've been a member of a few on-and-off and I can't abide being told to slow down because I'm making the others look bad. I hate being told to NOT volunteer for extra work because I need the cash. I hate being told that I shouldn't be learning a new skill, on a new machine, because then the bosses will expect everyone to do that. It's stifling!

as to the whole truch driver thing

Gonz isn't paid to much, Teachers are paid to little.

And Drivers are paid so highly because it is a stressful dangerous job, and usually very long hours

IMO, the biggest problem with unions today is that they are often run by idiots who don't understand global economics.

I am probably a little underpaid at the moment considering my skill set and education, but I'm not in much of a possition to complain. I consider myself lucky to have the job and responsibilities I have. I like my job and the people I work with.

Depends on the situation, now, doesn't it? From February 28, 2003 until September 5, 2003, I was woefully underpaid. Now my pay is adequate. Once I get married, my pay will be just right. Of course, my recent promotion is what did most of that. ;) Oh...BTW...I'm almost always overworked.

Unions create inflation. There is not one single reason to pay $19,000 for a friggin mass produced Taurus. It's worth $6899 MSRP before UAW markups.

BTW-a $1350. signing bous for 101000 peopel is ONE HUNDRED THIRTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS
Shame on them ...but I am happy....of course I always want more ....but to each his own.

Hey Gonz, what do you think of the new law that allows truck drivers to drive 11 hours straight instead of 10, but requires a 10-hour rest period between 11-hour stints?

I'm a network administrator, I get paid very well and I love my job. Wasn't always that way with my previous job with this company but pay was never an issue.

It should have been 14 on & 10 off. It'll slow down much of the nations freight & cause the prices to inflate.

The only rule was no more than 10 hours consecutive driving/15 on duty. 8 hours off but it could be toyed with.

Done right, one could drive over 16 hours per day
