Dounds to me like a comment on advertising becoming the moral standard by which we as a society determine good from evil, right from wrong, or worthy from unworthy.

Can't say I disagree too much with the assessment. A clever ad campaign can convince normally rational thinking people to do things like pay 3K up front and $389+/month to rent a car for three years, then turn it back in and pay for the mileage, and walk back out with not a damn thing to show for their money.
