I hope the FCC minds their own damned business, like why nekid chicks are prancing around on MNF & not at my house. Otherwise, it's typical...rightwingers want a battle of wits. The left provides nitwits.

Powell an Unlce Tom? How come no one has pointed out that the comment is wrong first and foremost. If he was an Uncle Tom why was their such a chasm in point of view between him and the rest of the administration? Why were many of his suggestions to the president in opposition to those that the president himself held? And why did he walk after essentially four years of frustration? wouldnt an Uncle Tom say Yes SAH boss SAH to everything hes told and want to stick around the massa's house as long as possible? Certainly doesnt fit that pattern. And its not a secret that Powell is WELL loved by tons of "liberals" who saw him as the only voice of reason in the first Bush administration. Didnt you notice it was funny how when he first announced his resignation that the real wails of say it aint so came from the democratic side of the isle? So no... he isnt universally thought of as an Uncle Tom by all democrats. Thats bunk. Someone should have pointed that out to that joker when he said it.

As for Rice. I think its fabulous that we have a black female in a position of such power in this administration no matter how wacked out her political philosophies are. calling her an aunt jamima is just making an ignorant statement that undermines a more legitimate one and the guy deserves to be vilified for it. that being said id love to see her out of office based on her politics. and the jury for ME is still out on her competence. a lot of people worry she was placed in this position to defuse the anti bush sentimentality within the state department. same for Goss in the CIA. and Im a little concerned with appointing someone to such an important position just to cut off heads and silence critics. But I say lets see how things play out over the next four years. Lets see if she simply acts as Bush's shadow or if she grows a third dimension and plays a big role in expanding the focus of the administrations political lens on the outside world. call her a mouth piece. call her a toadie. call her a wide range of things denoting her political point of view but using racial rhetoric to castigate her politics is wrong and frankly inaccurate. and i rank it in at the same level as certain conservatives who have unfairly labeled Bush as too much of a "black lover" (not using the term "black" of course...)

appointing someone to such an important position just to cut off heads and silence critics.

It has been done since teh beginning of time. It's called politics. It's also very much needed.

The state dept routinely ignores or circumvents many orders from the CiC because tenure, in their eyes, is more important than agenda's. It, the state dept, has been overrun by liberals, looking to govern from the inside, without ever having run an election. I hope Ms Rice eats these people alive. I don't expect it but one can hope.

Porter Goss, on the other hand, has already begun the bloodletting & descimating the inept CIA (an executive level dept).
Since it began getting infiltrated by the socialists, what have they done right? They missed the collapse of the Soviet Union. They missed the wall coming down. They missed all the terrorist attacks since 1978. They seem to have gotten Iraqs WMD programs wrong. They feed enough good info as to make themselves useful yet miss the real intel. Go Goss.

just because she black does not make her uncapable by any means, ...but being a woman!!! ....j/k

I find it funny the tolerant left has chose this route of demeaning her by race and the pundits are defending most of it.

I am all for Condi in o8, that woman has class and ability. (Not just avg class, impecable class)

:D Did I just see a mea culpa there? should I rub my eyes?

thats all fine and dandy but youve got two problems here. They are going after the clandestine service department which had some of the BEST talent in the CIA anti-bush or not. So yer basically cutting off your nose despite your face. Youve got these pompous young former hill staffers with limited mangerial experience and even more limited intelligence experience telling guys who have been there for 30+ years that they arent fit to shine their shoes? not the way to go. you can cull dead wood even shake up things to make it clear that we want people on board with the current administration but when you sterilize the most important intelligence agency in the country because you want everyone in brown shirt lock step with El Presidente then you are doing something really dangerous.

Second, do you really want to make this a precedent? that every time a new administration comes in you have a very public purge fest in the CIA? We arent talking about the agricricultural department here. the CIA DOES need some distance from the executive office or else look out George Orwell. The CIA is a whole different animal then your standard government departments where things turn over with the political tide. You want the best people there. No matter what party they are registered with. It will certainly come back to haunt them if they start picking people off based on how they vote. And come back to haunt us as a country.

The best? Did you see that list of MAJOR failures? At this point, I'm not sure they are fit to shine shoes. I am, however, not in a position to say...and neither is anone else not directly involved.

Mea Culpa? Not really. I know I saw the consequences of his having WMDs. I know his government did not follow agreed to conditions of surrender. I wanna know where those weapons are. The CIA said he still has them. Where are tehy?

The only problem I have with condi is looking at her (ugh) but I would never say that on national media, and by the way sometimes she looks ok.....Sometimes not.
I generally don't care what the officials in Washington look like. I'm more concerned with their policies and actions than their looks.

Here's the worst part about it...I'm the first black person I know of that's voicing a complaint.

Maybe they don't identify with the politician in question or see it as in issue effecting them...

I'm sure if the incident involving the England and Spanish football team (see my "Unbelievable..." thread) was an incident involving politicians there would be much less media and public interest.

Then there's the issue of "whats the point?" If this is a constant occurance maybe they believe theres no point as they won't be listened to

But yeah... the apathy of some people gets to me too.

Psst...TD...the first 'joker' who denigrated Colin Powell...in 2000...was Harry Belafonte. He called Powell a "House Negro"...and if you don't know the connotations of that, you should ask your parents. I'm sure that they know. If you do know what it means, I apologize in advance. Now we come to 2004, and the same crap is being spewed, and we still hear nothing from the 'enlightened' left. If you can't see what's wrong with that, then I pty you for your lack of vision. Also...throwing other things that are not entirely on this topic to cover for those whom you would desire in a position of power is also one of the oldest tricks in politics. Misdirection is the term. ;)

Are you saying I want Harry Belefonte to be secretary of state? Or are you saying every aspiring liberal politician has called Colin Powell a house negro? And oh by the way pardon me for following a related tangent on a message board called OFF TOPIC CENTRAL.

1. Nope. I said that Harry Belafonte was the first person on record to say that Powell was a 'House Negro'. How you got that Statement about wanting him to be Secretary of State is beyond me. Perhaps it has to do with wanting someone chosen by your candidate to be in that position? ;)

2. So I don't read every post and every thread here...sue me... :D (Your quotes about your statements) ;)

3. Yes...it is called Off Topic Central... :grinyes:
