Respiratiors

Damnit. Up at the cottage, I've got some ant damage repair ahead of me. Fourmic acid into fentex. Not very pleasant. Last year, I poisoned myself pretty well working on one room. This year, I was informed in no uncertain terms that if I was doing the work, I was wearing protection. Well, yesterday I went looking at respirator filter masks. Every damn one of them had the same warning : Not for use by people with facial hair.

WTF ... I see firemen with facial hair all the time.

You've been looking at the half face masks I assume? People with facial hair need to go for a full mask...

For the price of that, I could pay a contractor.

Well, that's what facial hair people have to wear...unless your facial hair is so little that it all fits inside the mask and the seal can be made driectly with your skin (yes, I know in YOUR case that isn't gonna happen).

prof, get you some petroleum jelly, and a rag to wipe with later.
Put it over the parts that will be in contact with the hair.

(Cheap mans solution, for a quickie)

That method is NOT an accepted alternative...please don't risk your health Prof...

Y'know ... it didn't kill me the first time. And after all, the beard's a pretty stout filtre all on it's lonesome, doncha think?

It's why the military doesn't allow facial hair. The seal around the face cannot be made with hair in the way.

Just trim the beard down to size. I had to do the same thing when I discovered that a family of mice had made a home in my shed and I had to clean everything off.

Doesn't petroleum jelly destroy rubber?

Yes. Use KY.

Cat, please tel me you don't use vaseline for lubrication while wearing a condom, and if you do, stop now. Petroleum jelly is fine for neoprene and many other synthetics, but it destroys rubber. If in doubt use KY or some similar water-based lubricant (Don't personally know about the anal lube there prof... ).

Nixy's right though. I'd either get the proper mask or hire it done myself although I have used cat's solution for spraying laquer.
