LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. - Al Gore's son pleaded guilty Monday to possessing marijuana and other drugs, but a judge said the plea could be withdrawn and the charges dropped if he successfully completes a drug diversion program.

Authorities have said they found drugs in Al Gore III's car after the 24-year-old was pulled over on July 4 for going 100 mph in his Toyota Prius.

He pleaded guilty to two felony counts of drug possession, two misdemeanor counts of drug possession without a prescription, and one misdemeanor count of marijuana possession, the district attorney's office said.

If he has complied with all the conditions of the diversion program, the sentencing will be continued again for another year, with charges possibly being dropped in 2009.

"At that point, he will be able to withdraw his guilty plea as if he never entered it," Coulter said.

Gore was expected to enter the drug diversion program immediately

The son of the former vice president and Democratic presidential nominee was previously arrested for marijuana possession in Maryland in 2003, when he was a student at Harvard University. Gore completed substance abuse counseling to settle those charges.

Completed drug treatment, did he? Looks like he's about as smart as his old man then. Lead the horse to water and all that.

The guy pled guilty, and still they bend over backward not to convict him. God bless America.

does anybody really get shit for having some pot and pills or whatever? i can't imagine i'd do time for having a bag and some bennies.

No, you probably wouldn't. Drug diversion programs are pretty common. I've heard of people getting diversion programs for more serious crimes because they had been drinking before they did them.

Hell Rodney King got a whippin' - half the city
burnt down, Reginald Dennyin beat til his eye fell out,
and 3.8 mil for doin' far less!

Certainly a clear cut case of discrimination!!!

If it had been me, I would've lost my livlihood and my freedom. If caught off-base, I would've lost my car and my driving privledges as well.

I do. What you seem to be forgetting is that a DUI is a DUI. He put lives at risk with his speeding and drugs. That audible 'pop' would be you pulling your head out...;)

Come to the Third Judicial District of Tennessee some time and get caught with your harmless little enhancements. I'll even provide the soap on a rope.

Here, allow me to introduce you to the concept. No need to thank me, it was my pleasure.

The more the illegal immigrants come here, the less that becomes the way Hers.
We're 1/3 now, and only the citizen get the Normal treatment.:grumpy:

Not just with the drugs either. That's '1' reason people here are fed up with it.
There 3 different sets of sentences. One for middle and upper income, that
have to pay through the nose, and community service, and/or jail time on top,
one for the poor, where they pay on a payment plan, and probation,
and ones for the iis
a promise to show up for either court of probation.

Unfair? Definitely. Unrepairable? Not quite as bad as it looks. All that is needed is uniform sentencing laws.

That's what I was saying in that other thread.
I think that part is agreeable for individual states to a certain extent,
just state vs fed, is where a problem arises.

Our Governor here looks like he's gone off the deep end lately, but
on this issue, it's juuust about coincides with the degree of ii.

Point is that there doesn't seem to be any special treatment that isn't common for others in the same situation in the same area.

You want to act like a big proponent of the law after advocating shooting people that look at you funny?

snooooze! i'm sorry, what was your point there?

_______

in other news...

i don't recall anything in the article about DUI. yeah, combining a DUI with a little pot and some vicodin... then i or al_gore_tiny may do some time.

I don't see anything there about the dude driving the Prius @ 105. You think they dropped those charges out of hand?

That you will do time here, despite how inconvenient, unfair, or unlikely you may find it. It's a very easy connection to make. Maybe when the dope wears off you'll be capable.

In Tennessee you will do time for marijuana possession but are encouraged to shoot people for looking at you funny and nailing testicles to walls is legal!

Looks like your in some sort of hallucinatory haze:

September 7, 2004, MURFREESBORO, Tennessee

Under a drug-court program, judges can give a non-violent offender the option of going into a comprehensive drug-treatment program instead of jail. According to court officials, it costs about $25,000 a year to jail someone in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center opposed to $5,000 a year to send someone through the drug-court program.

Woops.

Other interesting facts.

Locally grown cannabis has been Tennessee’s largest cash crop for the past ten years, surpassing even tobacco.

State survey data also indicate that marijuana is commonly abused in Tennessee. According to the 1998 Tennessee Department of Health, Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug Use Survey, 29 percent of adults surveyed reported they had abused marijuana at least once in their lifetime

Key word is CAN. They CAN give. Precisely why I mentioned the Third Judicial District, of which Murfreesboro is not a part. Here, you won't get it. Will not. No way. Won't happen. Fugeddabbudit.

There are times when other people know more than you know. This is one of them.

So if his son had been charged in the 3rd district of Tennessee this sentence would have been special treatment.

Had it happened in other areas of Tennessee, other parts of the country, or where he actually was charged? Probably not.

nah in tennessee the arresting cop, the bailiff, and the judge would take turns cornholing him while forcing him to shout "yes uncle, harder!!!"
