StoryThe family of a 9-year-old pee-wee hockey player is looking to put a rival coach in the legal penalty box, with a $10,000 lawsuit. The allegation: the defendant put a bounty on the grade 4 student’s head. According to the complaint, filed by 9-year-old John Bijelic and his father Sam, the threat came during a post-game confrontation in a North Toronto arena in mid-July last year. He alleges the coach screamed at his dad, jabbing him in the chest and threatening a bounty on the youngster's head.
“I will personally put a bounty on your son's head throughout the winter season," the statement of claim quotes coach Peter Higley as saying. The legal document goes on to allege the defendant made the threats “for the purpose of causing the plaintiff emotional distress, anxiety and alarm.” His parents feared the boy would be attacked every time he played against Higley’s team.
