"That's so gay" is common slang nowadays, at least in this part of the country. Parents won't let you go to the concert? That's gay. If your electronic spell checker isn't a very good one, then it's kind of a gay spell checker. This goes on.

That post was gay. :D

your avatar is so gay :gay: :p

Natalie I agree with you but again it is an insult by todays standard. maybe tommorrow will be different we never know. I hope so

My daughters are using it all the time now, their teachers are gay, the car we looked at is gay. If their hair isn't cooperating, it's gay. I'm about getting tired of it.

When I was a teenager (dim reaches of antiquity and all that) things that were badly put together or cobbled together from spare parts were said to be "nigger-rigged" and when you did something for someone that they really appreciated they'd mention how "white" that was of you. I could go on, but why? The more things change, the more they stay the same.

What I can't understand is how people stoop to such epithets. Is the English language so barren that we need them? As a child, teenager and now as an adult I never heard any of my friends or family use racist or ethnically-based derogatory terms. There are plenty of words out there, honest! Look through a thesaurus sometime.

In my youth, I was well known for launching insults that the receipiant whould need days to understand. And that they didn't understand them was an insult in and of itself.

But so many of them simply never could wrap their neurons around the concept, thereby negating the satisfaction of having insulted them.

I'm guilty of it myself...although for the right reasons. A lesbian-copuple which comes to my BBQ yearly were sporting t-shits that said effectivly "You're homophobic..." (on the front) and "That's so Gay." on the back

I borrowed it for the thread above.

Calling something gay is negative for now, but that's likely to change with the fad. With every passing generation, words, terms and prhases come and go because each generation is trying to differentiate themselves from the previous one.

Take a look at the word good. A few years ago, something was "cool", then it was "bad", then "Wicked" or "gnarley", now it's "sick"...as in, "Did you hear the new Nine-Inch-Nails CD? That shit is sick!"

Terms for having sex change too...anyone remember "knocking boots?". How about "Doing the vertical mambo", or "Parking"?

It's a term...it'll live on for a while...then die off, a passing fad.
If you're really going to get upset, try something which has been around for a while, and is likely to be around for a while (And is derogatory to homosexual men).

"Get out of my way cocksucker!"
