Those of us whose pessimism about our country's social degeneration sometimes borders on despair have been given a reality check by the dedication, discipline, and decency of our troops in Iraq, as well as by the advanced technology of the military equipment they use. There is more than a little hope there.

A recent episode at Amherst College provides even more reason to hope, for it shows a striking contrast between the behavior of college professors and their students in response to the war in Iraq.

Thank Don Rumsfeld for coming up with the idea of using only special forces. Probably 75% of them anyway. Anyone here know any special forces in the United States at this moment? Didn't think so. They're all in Iraq. Meanwhile all the generals are complaining that the don't have enough forces. All this and an incredibly low casualty rate. Amazing really. If we can do this with less then 300,000 what could we do with 6,000.000? Granted the regular army wouldn't be of this quality.
 
I'm waiting to see the 4th ID in action. They have all the neat new toys.


But sanity breaks through now and then, partly as a result of conservative talk radio and conservatives scattered here and there in the media, but more importantly because reality breaks through, especially when life and death are involved.

The big ones over there too. All 21,000lbs of it. You know they're going to find something to use it on if they lugged it all the way over there.
 
Didn't I hear that the soldiers blew the groin outta a Saddam statue? Maybe they could use it on that?

It's basically a deterrent. Keeps the idiots from using chemical/biological warheads. ;)
 
Well that's the reasoning anyway. It's most likely not going to be needed. Nothing that a few 2000lb bombs couldn't do. Mark my words though it will be used. You don't buy a new tonka truck just to sit around and look at it all day. Even the big boys have to use their toys.
 
It's for Syria... or at least, it's to give Bashar something to think about. We still have some Iraqis near the Syrian border that we have to take out, and Syria had better mind its own business while we do it.
