Al-Qaeda strikes at Britain

I hate to burst your bubble but we'll go extinct no matter what happens. We could all get along & sing cum-fucking-byah til the cow comes home & we're still going to disappear. Evolution does that.

I hate to agree with Gonz, but there it is. I know lots of people want you to believe we're the be all and end all of evolution, but look around you.

We've destryed nothing.

I might have said destroyed, :D but he's substantially correct, freako. A few thousand years after we're gone, you wouldn't be able to tell we existed. That's an eyebliink in geologic time.

Something else to consider (I like this one). Dinosaurs were the dominant species on earth for about 160 million years. There have been homo sapiens for about 120,000. Can you see us making it 159.9 million more? I can't.

There is even some question in the minds of some scientists that we're the dominant species now.

I would just like to reiterate that the world is clearly a better place today than it was when I was twenty. Everyone talks about how bad things are, but they're not.

Weapons that kill humans & their caves don't count. Pollution has killed what exactly? Taking a lot of resources & destroying them is different. The bison are still here & they were about as close as you can get to destruction soley by our hands.

If you really want me to Gonz I could go and find you a list of all the species that have become extinct during the 20th century due to mankind... but I'm not sure the bbs could handle that much data input.

For the record, I fully & absolutely agree that the world is a better place now than 40, 80, 150 years ago. We've come amazingly far in the blink of an eye. Medicine, proplulsion, electronics, engineering, mathematics...all jumped light years ahead of where we were yesterday. Even society is a better place. It's not where it should be & we take 2 steps forward & one back quite often.

The collective argument is the method for getting from point A to point B. People in my camp think that mankind is capable of taking care of themselves & will, when given no other option. Those on the left think mankind needs a helping hand. Since man is a lazy sod by nature, that creates an ideological disaster. Why buy the cow when the milk is free...in all senses of the meaning.

um...

Human settlement has historically preceded massive megafauna (larger animal) extinction events:

Native Australian Fauna: flightless birds, various marsupials, giant lizards
North and South America: camels, llamas, horses, cheetahs, sloths, mammoths, saber-toothed cats

And we are currently facing a biodiversity crisis of unparalled proportions. Human led destruction of habitat and yes, pollution, are reducing the diversity of creatures, animal and plant, that exist on this planet.

So, our great x10 grandkids can look forward to a world populated by humans, cats, dogs, cockroaches and bacteria.

k, I'll get off my soapbox now before I trip and fall on my bum :)

Wow! That statement is so....I dunno...I don't think there is a word that covers it....:retard:

Sorry Camelyn, but I think you're being wildly optimistic. For instance, Africa will be substantially depopulated in less than a century. Easily dealt with but they won't deal with it. 10x grandkids at all would be darned lucky in my view.

Of course you're right Gonz, the right have the answers to everything and everything that goes wrong is caused by the left, I forgot.

The problem you're not facing is that everyone (and I do mean everyone) is driven by the same set of instincts, but they react to those instincts in accordance with their experiences. If you don't understand their experiences, you don't know how they'll react.

My error. I supposed we were talking about the evil Americans again & not the entire history of mankind. I was amiss in using that particular noun & I stand corrected.

I say that the earth is screwed in the end and everything is going to die. So why dont we have some fun and take Jupiter and throw it at the sun and see what happens.

Wont that be better than slowly dieing because we use up all the fossile fuels and we get stuck on earth for all of time because all the oil company's CEO's were too bussy sitting in their 5 billion dollar mansions to bother to risk loseing their masion to find a new fuel source.

everyone (and I do mean everyone)

As with most people, you understand what you want to, not what is actually said. Americans? Who said anything about Americans? This thread went off-topic, didn't it. :D

I think it's unlikely that a slightly less than 0.8% increase in the sun's mass would change it significantly in any way. The asteroids all falling out of their orbits might be a problem, but one we're already ignoring on a smaller scale.

We have no means of doing that and will not hasve for a damn good time...
