Battlefiel 1942

I have both now. Medal of Honor looks and feels a lot better ... but is a static path game. Battlefield is grittier... but wide open. It conveys the raw fear and uncertainty of war. You never know when your head is in the crosshairs ... and you only hear the bomb for half a second before it smokes ya.

I cannot fucking get past iwo jima. Anyone else make it past this one? I'm controlling a majority of the positions. All except for the one closest to the beach(not the beach stronghold itself).

You just have to kill em all to win. The computer running your own chessmen is about fricken ignorant. Its all up to you to be an Audie Murphy and run the show solo most of the time.

I won Allied in easy mode. I'm in the middle of Normal on teh Axis side. Damned Russians are hard to beat.

Unc is right, kill everyone of the stinkin Japs.

I play in hard mode ... but with the ticket penalty reduced. That makes it back to 50% difficulty. I also like to do 3-400% bots.

Usually I start easy to get a feel for the game. Hard is too easy to get beaten to smithereens before you have a clue to what you're doing.

I figured it out. I'm supposed to capture and hold all positions. I thought i read that i was supposed to capture and hold the majority of positions. I was keeping away from that one japanese stronghold near the beach. Damn now i wish i could start all the missions over with 400% bots. Screw it i'm going to start over.

Holding a majority of the positions causes the enemy ticket count to slowly bleed out. Thats the 'were taking casualties' call. It means your tickets are being reduced by the hold point penalty... which to me is a joke. It should be straight combat all the way.

There's a lot of issues like that. I'd love to see them do this game all over again and fix all these issues. So many little things. Take sniper mode for example, line up the enemy in the crosshairs and squeeze off a round at 200meters only to have the image snap back to show you reloading the bolt action when it should be showing your enemies head snaping back. Then you have to zoom in again just to know if you killed the guy. The general idea of the game really is awesome but so much of it misses the mark. I look forward to a sequel.

I think the German sniper rifle is semi auto and doesn't do the pullback effect.

I tend to rely on the medic because he can heal himself. I just get annoyed at hoofing it back in all the time from a far flug base or ...god forbid ...a ship.

I did figure out one other cool thing though. You can actually be the machine gunner on one of the fighter planes. Just sit and wait until someone else jumps in the plane then jump in after them. Damned near impossible to hit anything though.

Monte Casino in the Road to Rome Expansion is a pain in the butt as well because its right at darkfall and the Germans are all but invisible ...BUT THEY SURE AS HELL CAN SEE ME! ...and riddle me to pieces at 200 yards.

Jump in teh plane & hit numbers 1-3. One of them will move you-or so it works in a tank.

Can anybody fly worth a damn? I'll fly to the area, drop some bombs & then kamikaze because I can't fly the SOB. I sometimes bail out in tme :D

Be sure to perfect your commando insertion technique of grabbing a plane right off the bat and parachuting over a control point far across the board and holding it for dear life.

I have the bail out routine down. NOw, to figure out how to control the damned thig :D

I just figured out that if I'm in the forward gun of the battleship, I can drive it.... *doh*
