Better late than never???

Ooh, ooh!!! Me, me, I did. :lloyd:

I just don't like the idea of reparations for things that happened that long ago. I think it contributes to keeping the tension alive rather than doing anything to ease it.

Okay...Atlanta has been completely rebuilt, and most of the folks there seem to be quite happy with it. It's been that way for about 100 years. Although the 14th amendment was passed in the 1870's, folks of my race were denied equality until 1964. The South is the friendliest place I know, outside of the very few folks who think slavery was a good idea, and has been for just over 40 years. I went to a school where I was mistreated solely because of my race, and am still ostricized from, only 24 and 1/2 years ago. I still don't know, exactly, who my friends were/are from that time of my life...

I went to a school where I was ostracized simply because of my last name. It wasn't on the approved list, so I was denied the opportunity to play baseball, despite the fact that I hit .650+ with 21 (legit) homers in 16 games and pitched 6 perfect innings against the neighboring town's all star team, players from which I was competing with for a spot on the school's roster. I was intentionally not invited to either my ten or twenty year reunions, this factoid on authority of someone on the committee. I ain't asking for reparations; I take my lumps and remember the bastards who treated me like this. I was mistreated in that school simply because my dad wasn't a doctor or a lawyer like many of the others were. I wasn't from "old money". Do I have a claim?

Reminders of the past, not historical references but things like this lawsuit, will only work to make sure those things continue to happen. Reparations are being asked from people who, for the most part (and growing), don't have the racial seperationist attitudes that were prevalent 50 years ago. As long as we're told we're the bad guys, we may begin acting like the bad guy. The past is over. Learn form it then stop dwelling on it.

As long as it isn't money. If you notice, I didn't ask for that, either. ;) Just a little human decency and respect.

So I should act like the world owes me something.

No thanks. That line is getting too long for my taste. I'll just leave it where it belongs...dead in the past.

Like my granny always used to say, "Honey, the big bad worl' don' owe you a thang! All you's ever goina git from it's what y'put yer back to an' earn. An' the gub'mint's giona take half-a that! Sooner you 'preciate that, sooner you'll make somethin' out'er y'seff!"

Looking at your Granny's advice...are we related? She talks just like my Great Grandmother, Rosie (from Georgia). ;)

BTW...My statement on life is as follows...

Everybody deserves respect until they do something disrespectful...

Well you are fine in your right to have any belief you want.

I on the other hand think that no one is deserving of respect.

Respect is to be earned, not a birthright.

So were reparations paid to the Korean shop owners,
the “victims" of the 92 L.A. riots?

So what did Reginald Denny get other than a brick in the head?
Did he end up with millions like Rodney King?

I hope this kind of idea would lessen the tensions that are felt. Gato from your perspective(I hope you do not feel I am singling you out by being racist by any means) but what would you feel are proper reparations?

Heh heh heh
told ya a condo and an SUV would be a start
oh and preferential treatment from now on
would be nice and I wanna sit in the front of the bus.

if they can afford the first 2 things then sure.
equal treatment for all I say
you may sit in the front if it is not taken.

Are you out there licking toads again, Winky? All I ever wanted out of life was human decency and respect. Of course, you wouldn't know about any of that, would you?

Nope I'd no nothing about any of that demanding
human decency from my fellow man,
I'm pigment challenged remember?
