Big Brother? 1984? Animal Farm?

there have been reports of chips like this coming out too. Something about them doesnt sit well with me either.

People complain about a universal ID card because of privacy laws...I seriously doubt that it'll go over well for the general populace.

btw...1984, I can see...but Animal farm?

You can look for the spin to be centered on things like medical mistakes - tougher to make when a scanner pops out the data on an individual patient.

I wouldn't want one, but thousands will.

Baa baa baa?

It doesn't say what the cost is. I think if they came out with one that was pretty inexpensive it would go over pretty well. Not that I would want one, but I'm quite sure thousands would. It's all in the marketing. Make it a GPS and you can entrap millions of parents around that world with the kidnapping paranoia.

Our old dog, gotten from the animal shelter (city, county or state run) was "tagged". It was cheap & if found roaming they had ample info on file. I was uncomfortable but it was a dog after all. A human??? Not me. No way. No how.

No. Absolutely not.

Hell, I won't even purchase a vehicle with OnStar. I do not like the idea of being tracked.

As I often say, there are two kinds of paranoia, rampant and insufficient. :D

as it stands the government could track you down and find out every last little bit of info about you if they really wanted to... and that's the key "really wanted to"

1984 was a great book, but its major flaw was the concept that there would actually be the ability/desire/manpower to observe everyone all the time, even if technologically possible

one should not fear being able to be identified or tracked, it has a lot of obvious advantages... instead one should concentrate on putting systems in place that prevent the abuse of this tracking

The thing that most 'privacy conscious' people fail to grasp is that their life is so fuckin' boring that they couldn't pay anyone enough to follow them abouts.

It's only when they commit a crime that the excitemement level gets high enough to warrant even peeking through their windows.

Just cause you CAN be watched doesn't mean that you WILL be watched.

You're an Interstate trucker. Suppose they require it for your livlihood under the guise of 'monitoring your driving log'. Just as likely as the military scenerio, if you think it through. ;)

Good point. I'm sure there are lots of professions where it could be considered and advantage. BJ's right too, they can pretty much find out anything if they want to.

Hmmm...I can see using such chips for employee theft detection. If the item is not paid for, the chip sends a signal to the security system...

True.

The chip in question is more about portable medical records than tracking a person's whereabouts, anyway.

Is 7-11 hiring? I already have major problems with some of the CDL provisions.
