The search for two missing Canadian soldiers on Baffin Island has ended on a positive note.

A Griffin helicopter sighted the pair shortly after the search resumed this morning. They've been airlifted back to the community of Pangnirtung and are described as being in good condition. A military spokesman says they're cold, but fine.

The pair was dropped off by helicopter about three kilometres outside of the community yesterday with some communications equipment.

They said they would walk back to town when bad weather grounded the choppers, but they failed to show up.

Polar bears are known to frequent the region and there is nowhere the unarmed soldiers, who were wearing only Gortex camouflage gear, could take shelter overnight.

One of the missing men is from the 427 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Petawawa, Ontario. The other is with the army's communications squadron.

The soldiers, taking part in a landmark military exercise called Operation Narwhal, had been dropped off by helicopters about three kilometres outside of Pangnirtung to put some communications equipment into place.

[aside]In addition, a Sea King helicopter was grounded after its engine caught fire. There were no injuries, but the helicopter was put out of commission until replacement parts arrived. LOL!! :rofl3:[/aside]

NOt really...my bro-in-law was in Artillery and is going into HumInt. He doesn't even hang with the fly-boys :)

I bounced it to him just in case he knew any of them and he can harrass them for a free beer :)
