Building a new PC...it's been awhile.

If anyone is interested here's what I ended up with.

Aspire X-Dreamer II case

directron_1879_69254212

AMD Opteron 148 CPU Socket 939 (haven't tried overclocking yet)
Bigass Thermaltake fan
MSI k8n Neo4 Mobo
ATI Radeon x700 256mb PCI-Express vid card
2x512 (1GB) Corsair memory
250GB Maxtor SATA harddrive
BenQ 19" 8ms LCD

That looks like a pretty good setup there to me....
only 2 things....
I've had hit, or miss with MSI mobos, but I haven't bought one on a year or so,
so I don't know how the new ones are holding up.....
and
The other thing is, and I was a big Maxtor fan, but since Seagate bought um
out, you may want to look at some of what they might have coming out soon.
I've gone total Seagate ATM.

I had good luck with the one MSI motherboard I bought... but I got it in 2001. It's in my mom's computer now (Athlon 1.2 GHz).

I've had good luck with Abit, as far as the hardware holding up, you just
usually have a butt-load of bios flashing to to it seems to fix some bug.
I'm and Asus fan myself. Of coarse there is 'some' flashing to do on them
sometimes, but not like Abit.
With msi, and amd, I've have a couple of bad losses, and some are still running 2,3,4 years now.
Like I say "hit or miss". If it makes it past a year, you probably got one from a good lot. If it does go...
it could do like one of mine, and take cpu, hd, and mem, when it blows.

I use Asus almost exclusively. I won't use them on Unc's machines because he's cursed. He WILL blow an Asus board within 3 months. He gets MSI's, and it's been a good choice.
