Cheap calls

No 1 is needed unless the call is classified as long distance. You should always dial an area code by rule of law anyways. It makes it so much easier and faster for the exchanger to put you through.

I don't think so. It will be long distance though, unfortunately, unless they rework the exchangers.
 
I know the 808 area code is a little different because it's not only Hawaii but several other US islands and territories. Not to sound like the phone company, but say for example, a Hawaii to Guam call is made, while both are 808, they are certainly not local. I would've thought that in Hawaii an island to island call would've been local, though.
