There really isn't ever going to be an enlistment problem.
Thats only true up to about 2% of the population. Getting the mumbers up much higher than that outisde of either dire circumstances or a stiff depression is traditionally tough... especially when they know they stand a chance of going into an actual hostile theater. Half are solid while the other half are really just there for the perks.

How does this tie in with the "No Child Left Behind" program? I gave it a brief glance, and it seems to be an effort at increasing the quality of educators and materials available to students. More feedback etc...

How it is being used to give recruiters and corporations access to children's phone numbers and addresses is beyond me.

From what I remember, the kids who joined the military out of high school would have done so with out without a recruiter interupting their lunch twice a week. My brother actually tried to talk to the Navy recruiter, but he wouldn't give any feedback, so he joined the Army instead. Woops.

Yep Unc that's right!
As long as we can get by spending less than 5% of GDP on defense
and have a high tech force the doesn’t require a large massed ground force
we'll always have plenty of folks to volunteer to keep us free.

America, what a country!

From what I've read those who aren't cutting it in school and don't look like they'll graduate are given the chance at a education in the Military. The problem I see with that is that if they aren't able/willing to "learn" in school are they going to gain anything but an education in how to use a gun from the military.

I don't know about the Canadians, but the US Military is no longer the last option for dimwits. Hasn't been for over a generation. A friends kid wanted to join & they wanted him to have a bachelors.

OK so it’s beyond you. Yer point?

So Abby do you really believe the “military” only takes the dregs of society?
Or are you talking aboot “military educational institutions” such as:
Annapolis
West point
The Citadel
VMI
The U.S. Air Force Academy

Hmmm?

Okay...since you wanted to sling stones...what is the average scholastic accomplishment of the average US military member?

What is the average scholastic accomplishment of society, in general?

Use Canadian statistics, if you like, because it makes no difference. ;)

Din they say sumthin' about not wanting a draft
cuz the current hi-tech military requires smart peoples?
