Wristbands sold to raise money for a campaign against world poverty are made in Chinese sweatshops in "slave labour" conditions, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

The "shocking" conditions are disclosed in confidential "ethical audits" of factories that make the ultra-fashionable white wristbands for the Make Poverty History campaign, started by a coalition of more than 400 charities.

Besides...by who's accounts are these 'sweat shops' and 'slave labour' being measured. Are theose stardards realistic?

Example.

In Panama, where I spent 3 years of my life, I had a gardener and a maid. The gardener came by once a week, and he was paid 15$ per month. The maid came by 3 times a week, and was paid $30 per week. If I was in the US, that could be considered 'substandard pay'. In Panama, however, that placed my maid and my gardener, who also worked for the entire block of housing, in the middle of the middle-class. It's easy to see the pay, and not the country the pay is in. ;)
 
I think if your wearing the "make poverty history" wristband then that falls into the piss taking catergory if its made in a chinese sweatshop.

Once again. You can't judge their employment standards by the standards in your home country. If they're prisoners, political or not, then they are doing something to keep them too tired to riot. :shrug:
 
Yeah, your alternative is often to move the plant, taking away the only local jobs for which these folks are qualified, and thus starving them out.

The world would be a much better place if we made all those people unemployed rather than minded our own business, wouldn't it HomeLAN? :D

If we minded our own biz, all of Europe would be speaking German, all of Asia would be speaking Japanese, and this country would be either subjugated by Hitler's Germany, or a fortress. ;)

Well seeing as we were delving into fantasy i took it to its logical conclusion. Remember you weren't planned you were an accident. We were looking for the Indies.

Funny. I can remember that the British weren't looking for anything but land. The Spanish were looking for the Indies, and it was the Spanish that happened to stumble upon the 'New World'. You lot came later, as rapists, theives, pirates, and other petty criminals under the guise of explorers. ;)
