A 15-year-old girl in Quebec's Saguenay region is believed to have died as a result of an allergic reaction to her boyfriend's kiss.

An autopsy will be performed on the body of the teen, who was allergic to peanuts.

Officials said she did not consume the nuts, but they believe she had a reaction to kissing her boyfriend, who had eaten peanut butter.

The apparently fatal kiss was last Sunday in Jonquière, Que.

Although an adrenalin shot was administered almost immediately, the teen did not recover, the Montreal newspaper La Presse reports.

The girl was rushed to hospital, where she died after suffering respiratory failure. Her death was confirmed Wednesday.

Just....damn.... :(

There is something so fishy about this sudden attack of the peanuts. People die from a plant seed? Why wasn't this an epidemic in the late 70s?

Me bored, me google.
Researchers believe there are several reasons for increased rates of peanut allergy in children:

* The increased allergenicity of peanuts when roasted.

* Children eating peanuts when their immune systems are immature.

* The use of topical ointments containing peanut and the use of soy formulas.

Scientists believe the rise could be due to more women eating peanuts when they are pregnant or breastfeeding. However, it is also possible that children become sensitised by coming into contact with pre-packed food contaminated with traces of peanuts.

The current increase in the prevalence of food allergies appears to have several causes including better screening, improved diagnosis and changes in both the techniques used by food manufacturers and eating habits

Yeah any person that would croak from that small an amount
of allergen isn't fit to live anyway:

"its natures way of tellin' you

somethings wrong".

Hey Honey, go make me a PBJ sammich!

I heard about this on the radio... pretty bad way to go.

Now buddy's got Mr. kiss-of-death as a new moniker.

He really should've known better though.

RIP :(

I guess a lot of people don't realise just how little exposure it takes with certain allergies.

I remember this mom on one of them scary parenting forums. She was outraged that her daughter couldn't bring a PBJ sammy for lunch, just because the kid had a hyperallergic kid in class. Her solution? Let the allergic kid be homeschooled so that the rest of the class could eat what they liked..

Peanut butter kiss didn't kill teen after all
Canadian coroner refuses to disclose true cause of death

SAGUENAY, Quebec - A 15-year-old girl with a peanut allergy did not die from kissing her boyfriend following his snack of peanut butter, a Quebec coroner said Friday, countering a report that drew international attention last year.

Saguenay coroner Michel Miron said Christina Desforges died from another cause. However, he refused to disclose that, saying he first wanted to report to the provincial coroner’s office as well as examine more test results.

But Miron said he was speaking out now to head off an allergy association from using the case as an example.
