Dropped the ball....

President Bush suggested Wednesday that Harriet Miers' evangelical Christian beliefs were part of the reason he nominated her to the Supreme Court. But later a White House spokesman said her religion played no role in her selection.

Holy crap. He first nominates a friend who at first blush appears totally unqualified, and then backs up his reasoning with tidbits about her religion, which isn't supposed to color her opinions while on the court anyway. Shit, Roberts was specifically asked if he could set aside those beliefs when a LEGAL decision required it.

What a monumental fuck-up. All I can hope is that someone sees the freight train coming and persuades her to withdraw.

It pains me to admit this. Deeply.

George W. Bush is not the man I thought he was. He is nowhere close to the man his father is. Though I was too young to vote then, I supported Bush the elder in 1980 when he ran against Reagan in the primary. I have always admired him, and feel that he was held scapegoat during his term for things he didn't have that big a hand in. Opinions vary, but that's mine.

Bush the latter has surrounded himself with some of the poorest advisors available. He then consistently makes Quayle-isms at frequent intervals, further digging his public opinion hole.

I still maintain that he is better suited for the job than anyone who ran against him either time though.

I'm anxious to see who emerges in '08. I know who I would like to see run. It ain't Cheney.

I've been watching the freight train for quite some time. Harriet is barely a blip on the radar, a symptom of a much more frightening problem.

And therein lies the problem. I wasn't going to vote for him the last time, until I saw what his opposition was. I really felt that there wasn't a choice. SKerry wasn't even on my radar, and the libertarians had a totally FUBAR'd foreign policy platform.

I am honestly having big trouble coming up with someone to support in '08 as well. It's a big ol' field of substandards as far as I can tell.

Just get a old-school big dish that picks up everything, slap down the $500 a month and get your football, baseball, okie noodling, nascar, tractor pulls, korean midget rasslin, the japanese stock market, preuvian porn, and documentaries on Egyptology in Chinese. Then you can live in Cannuki-land in comfort... so long as you have a few cords of wood and a nice iron stove.

Rob, your bed is made. SnP, sure there's baseball. At least, that's what the Blue Jays are calling it.

It always amazes me when you southerners go on about the cold. Last week, it was colder in Atlanta than Montreal. And considering that it gets colder in Atlanta than it does in Glasgow in winter, it's not like I'm packing any genetic advantages over you guys. So quit being pussies and book your holidays in January for the Ice fishing season. We'll go nail some sturgeon.

Not when I was there.

Harriet i still an unknown commodity. Yes, there are absolutely better picks, in public. Since we hardly know a thing about Ms (or is it Mrs) Miers, I still say withhold judgement on her. It would have been better had he picked a non-lawyer, but I'm sttill uncertain. If she is a strict originalist, I'll be pleased. Until we know that we stand in the dark.

GW still has my support for the only reason he ever has (he sure as shit isn't a conservative) the WAR ON TERROR. We're winning & he's still fighting. It's kind of fun to hear the talk show pundits rip ole George though.

at what cost...

First question.

How many days does the temp drop into single digits? Fahrenheit...don't gimme that metric shit.

The fact that he's using her religious beliefs as a selling point ain't exactly overwhelmingly positive. That's enough on its own to make me say she's the wrong choice.

Jesus is just alright with me, jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright with me, jesus is just alright

I don’t care what they may say
I don’t care what they may do

Jesus is just alright, oh yeah
Jesus is just alright

Perhaps. I think he was trying to sell to the religious sector & forgot that the cameras were on (typical). Overturning RvWade, is still the wrong decision if its made on religious grounds as opposed to Constitutional grounds.

Probably not more than 30.

This gives you a pretty fair idea. Sorry it's all in centigrade, but the conversion's easy enough for someone who can do math in his head faster than a 12 year old on a calculator.

So, 15 to 20 through Dec, Jan, and Feb, then it warms up to a balmy 25 in March? And you're below freezing 45% of the year? No thanks.
