Well, I finally got around to having a birthday celebration and got a DVD burner. Seems to work, now what should I do if I want to make a DVD movie into something people can download off my server? Say, a quick and easy MPEG 4 conversion, preferably on-the-fly so I can pop the disc in and have the net friendly file in one or two steps...

That's a problem. Look into DVD Shrink. Your best bet is to study at the best site I've found, Video Help...best site around for learning about DVD rips & stuff/

well, since you obviously aren't referring to copying a copyrighted movies, because i wouldn't know anything about those [hacks up a lung]...i would use dvdshrink (windows) for 9 to 5 dvd copies, i believe there are linux solutions out there but they are all nasty enough that i go for the quick and dirty. For doing divx i use MPlayer (linux), it's pretty easy to use and it's got tons of features.
