Election Results

But, that means that a woman (O'Brien) wasn't elected. That's just not PC :D

Yes sir, Winston Churchill, and Guilliani mentioned that. Very nicely said.

The problem with the quote is that it implicitly endorses socialism as something that "people with a heart" ought to believe in. Most people would rather have a heart than a brain, so they believe in socialism even when they are shown that it cannot work. Why? Because they were raised to believe in Christianity, and socialism is a secularized form of Christianity. It attempts to implement the ethics of Christianity in politics. The ethics of Christianity is self-sacrifice, which is fine if your goal is to die, but it's an impossible moral code to live by. Christians are raised on an ethical code that can't work in reality, so why should they be troubled by a political system that can't work in reality either?

The ethics of self-sacrifice is evil, and socialism is too. Anyone with a brain should know this, and anyone with a heart should feel it.

I said that in a Greenfreak thread one time & almost lost my cajones. :D

Unc, GA has changed Senate party affiliations too.

Is Gov Perdue (R) from the chicken people?
That blows me away that GA is now slanted Repblican with a Republican governor. ... hell... Max Cleland was an institution here by the time I was in pull-ups. Now it seems that hes about to go 'poof'.

No. Hes not one of the chicken people.

Any word on general %'s voting? I've noticed about 1.6 million votes for GA governor in a state with like 3.5 million registered voters. PUlling nearly 50% on an election that was supposed to get record apathy is an eye popper.

Um no..... I'm a Christian and very right-wing and very conservative. I know there are some that implements a socialistic system, but that was never demanded nor was it required. Timothy (in the Bible) states very clearly, if you do not work, you will not eat. Self-sacrifice only up to a point, I might add. It doesn't mean stand there and let the world beat on you, and steal everything you've worked for.

Most traditional Christians, protestant wise, and I'm not talking the odd cults, are hard workers, and vote traditionally right-wing. My entire family is Christian and we are all right-wingers. If you are in the Buffalo, NY area, tune in on WDCX (99.5 FM)... Its a Christian radio station, and yeah, they are very right-wing. They don't advocate socialism.

Its just a myth or a misconception to say Christians are socialists. We aren't. Some are, but they interpret things in a different way. I'm really not going to judge them. You're generalizing very broadly to say all Christian principles are based on socialism.

nothing I've seen, but looking at numbers, I'd guess about 40%. We'll know tomorrow (today)

Don't let yourself be crucified, you mean? All that means is that they endorse the principle of self-sacrifice, but don't want to follow it consistently. Is that Christian? Is that how Christ lived, er... died?

Explain to me, then, why Jeb Bush is bragging on the radio about fighting for a prescription benefit for seniors? The Republicans cannot stand up to the Democrats on social spending for the poor and elderly. They cave in time after time. Why? Because, philosophically, they are disarmed by their Christian beliefs. They cannot defend selfishness, and capitalism is grounded on people being free to pursue their own self-interests.

"Give your money to the poor and follow me."

You're generalizing very broadly to say all Christian principles are based on socialism.

Venn diagrams! Venn diagrams! I said that socialism is based on Christian ethics, not that Christianity is based on socialism. I have a little better grasp of history than that.

I'm going to bed. At this point, the Senate stands at

Republicans - 50
Democrats - 46
Independents - 1

That means there are 3 still undecided... From the looks of it:

Louisiana: They are odd, but I think it will go Democrat.

Minnesota: Republican... Leading 53% to 44%, with only 27% precincts reporting though.

South Dakota: Democrat... Barely. Leading 50% to 49% with 68% of the precincts reporting.

If things continue just as they are right now, it would give the Republicans 51 seats in the Senate. A majority.

The biggest supporters of socialism are aetheists... Soviet Russia, China, and so forth comes to mind.

I can't speak for others, but only for myself, and if I was governor of Florida, you wouldn't hear me mouthing off about increasing welfare and all that. I believe in a very very minimal government, little or no taxation, little or no welfare, and let the people go on with their lives.

lol

we did, however, have the first govenor to give birth in office. twins no less....

And on a local level, Tom Murphy was defeated in the GA state senate by a republican. This guy's had a machine that rivals the Daley's for 30 years, and they booted his ass.

I'm loving this.
