Elizabeth Smart, alive & well

I believe 3 or 4 counties here in the UK are piloting the Amber Alert scheme. If it's successful it will go nationwide. :)

glad shes back and is allright. though they havent released the details, the news here made it seem like it was a kidnapping but i dont know if anyone else heard this but when they found her she had some kind of wig on. so it does seem fishy but it could also be brainwashed.

I'm happy for the Smart family, I would never want to go through that *shudder*

I was in Walmart the other day when a "Code Adam" was called. It's scary to think how fast you can lose a child!!

Back in my KMart days of the mid 80s, I don't think we had a missing child callsign. The only dreaded ones were code Romeo (robbery) and Caroline (fire).

What is your take on this Lacey, you're 14, right? Any feelings you'd like to share?

Yeah.
I'm mad at the bastard who kidnapped her, and all the other bastards who kidnap kids. I don't see why they need to take them away from their families. Just makes you wonder what kind of a world this is.
At least she's back and alive. Thats a good thing.

That one guy, Chris Jenkins, he got kidnapped at halloween, and people found his body on feb 24 near the mississippi........thats sad. He wasn't as lucky as her.

They usually aren't, sadly.

I really wanted them to find that pregnant woman who 'dissapeared' on Christmas Eve. I don't think they ever will. Or they'll find her 'remains'. :(

And as usual, the spotlight-grabbers are coming out with their usual, "oh yeah, she came into my store/house/restaurant, blahblahblah" ... "she looked into my eyes, and she looked scared, blahblahblah" ...

i just want to beat all of them :bitchslap

If that's the truth then why the fuck didn't they do something at the time? That's what I want to know.

The article I read in the paper was speculating that she may have had that hostage syndrome where they identify with their kidnappers as a means of survival.

I blame the media for that nonsense. How often have we sat through "We're here, live, with the actual second cousin, twice removed, of so-and-so who we know is under arrest for such-and-such and though he has never met his distant relative, he says....blahblahblah".

This story is getting stranger and stranger...

A picture taken of them by a tourist months ago:

Wearing a wig, sunglasses and a makeshift veil, Elizabeth denied her identity when police asked who she was.

"She made those statements, 'You guys think I am Elizabeth Smart. I am not,' " Sandy Police Sgt. Victor Quezada said. "She kept denying who she was, right to the very end."

Quezada said he and his fellow officers decided to "give it one more shot" as they put Mitchell, Barzee and Elizabeth into police cars, asking again if the girl was Elizabeth Smart.

The teenager dodged the question.

"She uttered the words, 'Thou sayest,' " Quezada said, "and I had never heard that phrase before."

Nevertheless, Quezada said, "we took that as a yes."

Elizabeth Smart was a regular visitor to a Salt Lake City supermarket after she was kidnapped and would often spend hours hanging out there, a store employee told CNN Thursday.

Her identity was not known to Erin Johnson, an employee of Wild Oats Market, until after her arrest.

Not only was Elizabeth's face covered with a veil, Johnson said, but she was "taller than I was, and I'm 20, so I didn't really think about it."

Mitchell had long been an oddity in the Salt Lake area, Johnson said, and she had noticed him years before.

"He sticks out. He dresses like Jesus, completely," going so far as to wear sandals and a loincloth, she said. "He's kind of a Christian extremist. People ask him, 'Why are you dressed like that?' He's very defensive."

Thank god her parents aren't talking about any physical abuse she might have undergone!!!

I've always wondered why so many parents speak so freely of their 6 year old daughters experience being raped by a 45 year old man!?! Don't people consider that their kids live their own public lives?

I'm really glad they're keeping private.

According to the papers this morning she's supposed to have gone willingly and entered into some sort of "marriage" while she was away.

I feel sorry for the poor girl, all this speculation by the press is probably as traumatising as anything she experienced while she was away.:disgust2:
