Evils of socialized medicine

A is a free market society with a very, very small government. Taxes are almost neglible and there are just about no social services. It is expected of the people to take care of themselves, and charitable organizations and churches can help those in real need such as people with severe disabilities. In this country, people work hard and get 98% of their income. If you don't work, there are no shelters, no food, nothing. If you want to get somewhere, you will have to work.

So, A is the U.S.?

Perhaps you should do a tad more research. First of all, our government is not tiny. It is overbloated with Social Security and Social Services, in a nutshell, welfare.

Keep 98% of my income? ROFL. We are lucky to keep 60% of our income, unless you are VERY poor, where you get to keep around 80%.

PeterTutor, if you care to pay attention a little more you will see than in both cases I exaggerated quite a bit to draw out the contrast.

freako, there is a huuuuge difference between the poor and the lazy and worthless. Here is what I define as lazy and worthless. A couple of months ago a Toronto Star reporter went undercover and became a "homeless". He went to shelters, got free food, and so forth. After a few days, he made some friends and got to know the pattern. It turns out that:

- most of those people refuse to do any kind of work. For example, when offered to hand out pamphlets, they declined because they can make more money by begging on the streets.

- if you get there at the right time, they server wonderful food. Certainly better than what the poor eat.

- certain times of the year they provide free vacations

All you have to do is pretend to be homeless, refuse to work, and hold your hand out for the government to feed you from stolen money. What a great system. :headbang:

Sorry, thought we were discussing facts, not exaggerations. I'll certainly keep that in mind when reading your future posts.

Don't you comprehend what you read man? Sometimes, in English, people exaggerate to draw out a contrast. I forgot the technical term though.

Ahhh, I see now. Yes, I do comprehend what I read. However, if someone is trying to make a point about actual differences in how a certain system works better or worse than another system, I believe the best way to do so would be to use facts, not exaggerations. I do realize you are still quite young, LL, and may not understand that in real life, we have to use real arguments to get our point across.

i'll keep that in mind too.

now i understand everything you have said, I.E. EU being a country was a real exaggeration.

LL my apologies. i had misinterperted what you said and as ris had said there is somewhat of a notion that lazy and worthless=poor so thats what i had thought you were referring to. gonz thats why i said what i did so i can understand why you sided with him and i thank you and LL and ris for clearing that up for me. again my apologies. and ive heard this story from someone and this is what i call lazy worthless and general shitbag. a homeless man was always approaching a wealthy business man and they became friends. the homeless man was quite educated, had good ideals and so on. one day the rich man said "you are very smart why dont you get a job in my office? i will pay you well and youll have a home and hot food in your mouth?" the homeless man replied "no thanks i can make more money this way." i dont know whether its true or not just that i feel a man like the homeless man is being lazy and worthless.
