You don't have to unless you are in a public venue. Even then, it's not mandatory. :shrug: It's just a sign of respect.

For the record, when in a public venue, I'll stand when the US anthem is sung. I stand when the Canadian anthem is sung. I sing when God save the Queen is sung.

Last time I checked, I thought most americans were the sludge on the bottom of the genetic pool. If I can show that much respect to a nation I think so little for, what does it say when it's own citizens show less?
