MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — There won't be any herald angels singing or little drummer boys drumming at schools in Maplewood this holiday season.

Last year, when students in the chorus sang Christmas (search) songs at holiday concerts, a few people complained that lyrics about the baby Jesus or angels made non-Christians feel left out. So, the music director for the New Jersey district issued an edict that all songs representing any religion (search) were to be avoided.

So...it's come to this. People scream for diversity, but, when it comes right down to it, it's not diversity they want. It's only to silence the majority. Nowhere in the school charter is this type of music forbidden, but, because 'a few people complained', the whole group has to suffer.

1. If you don't like it, don't participate...
2. If you wish to do something positive, add to the festivities by adding your own music.

 I bet these same complainers won't refuse their "Christmas Bonus" if push comes to shove...

I roll my eyes every time I hear stuff like this. The kids daycare/preschool went into a tizzy if you said 'Halloween'. It was simply 'pumpkin day' to avoid the entanglements of... well... adults that get their panties into a twist at the first hint of anything and sue.

You know, I keep waiting for the inevitable backlash from all of this crap. But I'm not holding my breath.

1. If you don't like it, don't participate...

It should not be forbidden. You cant have selective diversity.

I long ago concluded, to my sadness, that some words are incorrectly defined.

"Racial equality" does not mean all races being equal; it means some races should get preferential treatment because they somehow think they've earned that.

"Cultural diversity" does not mean a difference based upon cultural factors; it means one now has a right to shove their own culture down everyone else's throats.

"Tolerence" does not mean acceptance of differing viewpoints; it means if you don't accept MY differences I'll sue you until you do.

"Segregation" was once something to be offended by; now it's something people choose to do but cannot admit to doing because if they do they loose ground on their other arguments; see "racial equality".

"Freedom" does not mean existence without unfair restrictions; it means a perceived right to 1) enforce my ideals on anyone else, or 2) bitch and moan about any little thing that rubs me wrong.

Somebody call Dan'l Webster...we got issues here.

Some of us are fighting tooth, fang & claw because what we wrought is being stolen.

It's not being stolen. It's falling apart, because the people who built it were too short sighted to see the evil it could be perverted for. They wrote in freedoms, without limit. Not realizing that someone might use that freedom to subborn the freedoms of others.

Interesting thatthe framers of the Constitution believed that freedom could only work in a Christan society. Looks like they were on to something.

I agree completely.

I seriously doubt that the founding fathers envisioned freedom of religion to mean you couldn't openly practice or recognize that same religion. Or that freedom of expression would come to mean the wearing of S&M attire in a shopping mall.

Liberals. PAH! :swing:

Wrong..not a Christian society...a homogenous society. Doesn't have to be Christian...just a place where everyone is exactly the same...same language, religion, morals, race etc... where everyone is literally on the same page.

Hence the
'melting pot' ideology.... you move here, you're no longer Spanish, French, African, Japanese...you're now American.

Problem is...people don't like cookie cutters...those damn edges are sharp and will cut you. :nerd:

while I agree with Bish I do want to say that the saying

America is a melting pot. The people on the bottom get burned and the scum floats at the top

is more accurate

Now that is the most philosophically accurate statement posted on this board today!
