uk pharmaceuticals giant glaxosmithkline has suffered an unprecedented pay defeat worth millions of pounds to executives when the vote at the annual general meeting went against the remuneration report.
the board was unanimously reappointed but a furious reaction to a 'golden parachute' payment for the chief executive lead to the pay defeat.
looks like the shareholders have had enough of companies still increasing the payouts to the people at the top even when the shareprice is tumbling. a few other companies are thought to be looking at this result very carefully.
