Ok I'm trying to install a new copy of M$ office 2002 small business edition on a friends puter running XP home with SP2... every time I run the setup I get this error message

1635 This patch package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and is accessible, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer patch package.

Now I have looked through Microsofts site, tried everything I can think of but I just cant get the thing to load, can anyone explain what this message means and what can I do about it?

Got another cd drive? I've run into things like this before, and sometimes it's just that simple.

I'd try the updated windows installer first http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...f9-2d36-4977-8fa1-6f8a0f5dca8f&displaylang=en

If it's not a scratched installation CD or a crappy CD-ROM drive I'd have to wonder...

How about this:

did the guy have, Plus! for Windows XP on his system?

That error has been experienced by many others

So in my less than two minutes of looking I'd wonder if this isn't lay problemo?!?

I went to my registry and as I've never installed Plus
I haven't the specified entry.
I'd check to see if "plus" is in the list of "Installed programs" and remove that bloatware sucker!

Ain't the 'internets' a wunderful wunderful thang?

Windows Installer 2.0 Redistributable for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000 supports Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6 or later and Windows 2000. Windows XP contains Windows Installer 2.0 and therefore can't be installed or upgraded by this redistributable.
