A very nice letter from the probate judge containing my CCW license!
I was not expecting it so soon as I was told when I filled out the paperwork that it would take 3-6 months!
Filled out paperwork on 05\05\07 and it showed up today 06\16\07.
Now I need to get a holster of some kind for the .357 snubby.. I have a very nice IWB holster for the Springfield .45 from Brigade Gunleather, but with the VERY warm weather we get here in GA, shorts are a must! I want to "pocket carry" the Rossi, but a holster of some kind is required for carry in GA.
I thought I had some time to get one before the license showed up...:eek5:
guess I'll get one at the next gun show..

Carry in good health & may your first shot be the one that's needed.

So the question is........if guns are legal over there, why do you need a permit to carry one concealed? :confuse3:

Firearms are still illegal in most places... and it was always a felony to carry one concealed because it instantly constitutes a theat to peace officers and such. Even with a carry permit it is still illegal to carry weapons into crowd gatherings like concerts, political rallies, government buildings, places that serve alcohol,...and pretty much all businesses.

I have nothing against owning guns, but whats the need to carry one in public? Crime that bad in GA?

I believe that it assists in other ways...like in buying a new gun. I am pretty sure it cuts down on your wait time etc.
Plus, should you be transporting it in your car back and forth to the range or repair shop and get pulled over there is less hassle.

yeah, and in some states, you can own a gun, but you must keep it in your home, unless you are transporting it to or from shooting ranges, which are the only places you can use them (except home defense after all other options are exhausted)... i live in such a state.

i'm hella jealous of you, kruz!

The reality is that being a CCW holder
raises the person to nearly the level
of a police officer.

It carries great responsibility.

In rare cases it puts the holder in the position
of having to make a life or death decision.

I hope the day never comes because first you
must decide if lethal force is warranted
And if you can fire to the target without
injury to any innocent bystanders

But it sure beats cowering in the corner with your
classmates wait for your turn to be shot.

No wait that was a ‘gun-free’ zone and CCW
wasn’t allowed!

Oh how the headline would have read if a CCW
holder had shot that guy after he’d injured one person!

we have a new law here (as of last year)
and YES, it is a great responsibility. not to be taken lightly.

O.C.G.A. § 16-3-23.1
No duty to retreat prior to use of force in self-defense

A person who uses threats or force in accordance with Code Section 16-3-21, relating to the use of force in defense of self or others, Code Section 16-3-23, relating to the use of force in defense of a habitation, or Code Section 16-3-24, relating to the use of force in defense of property other than a habitation, has no duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground and use force as provided in said Code sections, including deadly force.

Indiana is one of those stupid states. Technically, the only place you may carry a gun, in public, without a CCW, is in your vehicle, immediately after purchasing the weapon, to your home, where you may carry ot around on your property (until the neighbors complain I suupose).

However, for a fee of $125.00 you may get a lifetime, shall issue, CCW. For a fee of $40. (I think) yo can get a 4 year permit.

In Arizona, we carried them in the open. It was great.

Mine was $44 for 5 years,
I don't know if I would "open carry" even if it was possible (which its not) I'd rather keep that to myself.
I think that broadcasting that you have a gun would invite more trouble than it would prevent.

Just as bad as anywhere else really. The thing is, you just never really know when something bad is going to happen near you or to you. A weapon does no good tucked under your pillow back at home when a knife wielding thug says 'howdy' to you at your local ATM.

Kinda like having it in a gun safe with trigger lock & the ammo in another room when the invader arrives.

But it's sooo much fun to see the look in their eyes when they realize that they're not the only knife wielding thug in the booth ..... and the door behind him is locked.
