Actually no, i have noticed that owning a gun comes down to personal preference more then social influence. There are Texans that don't like guns and Crazy trigger happy Brits.

my personal preference is not to own weaponry; i have no knives, guns, sharp sticks or handy nunchucka by my bedside or lining my coat.

i wouldn't know what to do with one if i did, and don't have a big enough interest in them to want one and learn to use them properly.

if i lived in a different part of the uk perhaps i would worry about my personal safety more, but ther reality is that i am fairly sure that in the uk serious gun related crime [as an example] is based in particular areas of towns and cities where gangs and other violent activity are prevalent.

That's the case almost everywhere. There are exceptions everywhere too.

A 4-year-old boy who found a loaded gun in the house shot and killed his 5-year-old sister and seriously wounded his 7-year-old brother Saturday, police said.

The children were home alone at the time, police spokeswoman Cpl. Diane Richardson said.

"It's a terrible situation that probably could have been avoided," Richardson said.

probably?! :retard:

Im an 18 year old Canadian. We have two guns in my house, a .22 revolver and a 16g shotgun. I don't think that there is anything wrong with owning guns at all. I completed military basic training for the Canadian Navy, and we slept with that rifle, so I am very comfortable with weapons. Guns are just like anything else.. if they fall in the hands of the wrong person you're god damn right they're dangerous. The kind of person that would kill someone with a gun would proably kill you with a knife.. why dont we just take all the knives away too?

So you found 1 example of a child getting hold of a gun and tragic results.

Whoopty doo.

I can show you about 2,000+ examples of children being killed in car wrecks in 2003 alone, in the united states alone.

Its irresponsible people..nothing more nothing less.

When compared to deaths from choking, poision, car wrecks etc

Instances like this are miniscule in comparison.

If you were really concerned about the well being of children, youd be much much much more concerned with cracking down on parents who are irresponsible with child restraints...causing about 40 to 1 more deaths to small children.

By using this example and neglecting the real threat to these children you both make your self look like a fool and perfectly demonstrate your obvious bias and ignorance on the topic...and also completely removing your credibility on the subject.

PS. Every police officer is also VERY MUCH AT RISK OF THIS.

Are you now going to suggest that POLICE OFFICERS DONT HAVE GUNS? What about Federal Agents and military personel?

And when your done that, you have to ban all toxic substances, poisions, prescriptions medications, steps, trees, cars, and pets (all of which seriously maim or kill many more children a year).

No thats stupid right? No parents need to be more responsible with protecting their children right? Then its no different with weapons.

yes but its not the guns he sees as a problem he even says hes a member of the NRA. he sees a problem in our society as being violent. In Canada, he even says there are far less murders there and the all have guns. Japan has a unique rule. you can own the gun but not the ammo(or something to that extent)

I dont think saying that "our society" has a problem with violence is accurate.

What our society has is 1) a very very sorry justice system that allows more murders back out on the streets or never catches them in the first place 2) A general societal attitude towards criminals that "they are just misunderstood", or "have a disease" (in order to be politically correct). 3) A very high population of socioeconomic and intellectually challeneged individuals who have figured out that they can game the criminal justice system because it basically sucks.

Remember 98% of the crimes are committed by 2% of the population.

Is the general society violent?

No.

Are they afraid as hell

You betcha.
