wanna go on a bitchslapping crusade?

MONTREAL (AP) Fans booed during the playing of the U.S. national anthem before the New York Islanders' 6-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

The sellout crowd of 21,273 at Bell Centre was asked to ''show your support and respect for two great nations'' before the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems.

But a significant portion of the crowd booed throughout ''The Star-Spangled Banner'' in an apparent display of their displeasure with the U.S.-led war against Iraq. More than 200,000 people turned out for an anti-war demonstration in Montreal last Saturday.

''I'm sure there are a lot of people against the war, but some things people can't control,'' said New York's Alexei Yashin, who is from Russia. ''They were probably showing what they feel about it.''

Teammate Mark Parrish, a native of Bloomington, Minn., was upset hearing the boos.

''I came to the game pretty pumped up, but once I heard that it really got me going,'' Parrish said. ''So I guess I can thank them a little bit for getting me more pumped up.''

So is everyone as outraged at this as they were when the NY'ers booed the Canadians? Anyone writing letters demanding an apology for these "INCONSIDERATE ASSHOLES"?

They're sheep. I doubt any of them even knows why they oppose the war. Outside of it being the popular thing to do. Most of them probably wear velcro strap shoes coz laces are beyond them.

Slapping them whould be a waste of time. They're too primitive to comprehend why you slapped them.

booing 'god save the queen' in wales is practically a sport - they record the loudest ones on a chart and award prizes later. got so weary of it that now i mute all national anthems on tv sport, if a few morons want to act like wankers then fine, but i'm not going to listen to it.

i figure if i listen to the calcutta cup game today (scotland v england) then i'll here plenty from both sides. too pathetic to waste time on.
 
welsh and scots don't necessarily see themselves as being part of britain, so when the games v england come up its a big affair. england never got round to having an individual anthem so it uses god save the queen, the scots use 'flower of scotland' and the welsh 'hen wlad fy nhadau' [land of my fathers].

just to rub it for prof the scots went down 40-9 to england at twickenham yesterday. :D
 
If the welsh and scots don't want to be part of Britain let them control their own finances and we'll keep our subsidies and government grants for ourselves. After all they have their own assemblies so let them get on with it.
 
We're all for that. But for some reason, the english gov't doesn't want to take it's hands out of our pockets.
