The Holy Ghost, Or A Hoax?
To skeptics, it has all the markings of a hoax. But to hundreds of believers who packed a Scarborough church on Tuesday night, it’s a sign from the holy ghost. They packed the St. Mar Barasaumo Orthodox Church to see a Syrian woman apparently bleed oil from the traditional hand-wounds of Christ. Believing that she has healing powers, many of them sought her blessing.
Her name is Myrna Nazzour and the phenomenon began 20 years ago. Since then she's had five visions of the Virgin Mary and also suffers from Stigmata. For those who haven’t seen Hollywood’s take on the phenomena, Stigmata occurs when a ‘chosen’ individual suffers the same wounds that Christ received during his crucifixion. Her hands bleed what many believe is a holy form of olive oil, capable of divine magic.
An interpretor spoke for the mysterious women. “Most of the times it happens when there's mass, during prayers is when it happens. She has no control.”
