Southern Discomfort
Role-Changing

The University of Washington has scrapped its tradition of having a Homecoming King and Queen in favor of non-gender-specific “homecoming royalty,” reports the Seattle Times.

The Associated Students of the University of Washington (ASUW), the campus
group that organizes homecoming, has broken from the annual tradition of a
homecoming king and queen in order to make the competition for a scholarship that comes with the titles more equitable.

"In our day and age, a lot of the traditional definitions of roles are changing, and this follows in line with that,” said Sumida Cho, one of this year’s winners. “Once people realize that this is not just a popularity contest but one based on qualifications, they'll hopefully understand and accept it."

Too bad, folks...the train has left the station. Anyone hoping to salvage any shred of common sense should have spoken up fifteen years ago. As a result of your tardiness, you shall be subjected to such idiotic reasoning as this.

That'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

My grandfather was fond of saying "there's no such thing as common sense, if it were common there'd be more of it." In forty years I've never seen anything to contradict him. Things do get sillier by the minute though, don't they?

Welcome Adam & Steve, our homecoming royalty, to YOUR University of Washington Pink Poodles Homecoming parade ;)

What's wrong with that?

I'm still getting over the scholarships given based on student votes?
:eek6:

Aren't schoolarships supposed to be given based on your notes?

Notes = Grades? (Marks given to show progress & ability in a given class).

If so, then yes...supposed to be.

Yeah, grades :D

If that's the case, then what's the problem with this?

Yoou're gonna have to provide a link S&P ...cause there's two things that I don't see.

1) Gonz's allusion that this has anything to do with homosexuality. As far as I can see...it doesn't.

2) I don't see anything wrong with people being given credit for hard work and good grades as opposed to having some chick with a nice pair of tits and a jock with a 6-pack as the 'King and Queen" and those that should be looked up to.

Its far more important to have a nice body than a brain. :alienhuh:

So what are you trying to say?

Remember the good old days when people went to school because they didn't think they knew everything?

AFAIK these king and queen positions are traditionally by student vote?

I dunno?

It seems to be something like the whole highschool football obsession? :confbang:
