They were way off. I ended up with 20 and they said it was 31.

Here's the basic form of their ESP:

X + A + B + C + D + E - X = (A + B + C + D + E)

A, B, C, D, and E can be positive or negative.

The first thing you do is choose a number, X, and the last thing you do is subtract that number, X.

X - X = 0, for any number you choose.

The equation becomes:

A + B + C + D + E = (A + B + C + D + E)

Since they choose the variables A, B, C, D, and E, it's not surprising they are able to predict their sum. :D

Yep.
I actually redid it and can see where its going. You add your number in the beginning, and subtract it in the end.
The "think of a number" part is jsut to confuse you.
