New Video Game Recreates Kennedy Assassination

By Ben Berkowitz

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A new video game to be released on Monday allows players to simulate the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy.

The release of "JFK Reloaded" is timed to coincide with the 41st anniversary of Kennedy's murder in Dallas and was designed to demonstrate a lone gunman was able to kill the president.

as far as those who are manufacturing consent are prepared to take it...as far as those who give their own consent for something like that are prepared to buy the product.

There is probably quite a market for wannabe terrorists now, I should imagine...

just curious as to what game it is.Because I think its a bit much but then again we have the GTA series and some other games that are controversial.

I always thought it was three shooters from the CIA
Oh Well if I can't have the Grand Unified Theory solved in my lifetime at least let me know who really shot JFK.

Too far. But we're a free society aren't we?
One of the downsides of freedom of speech....you can't just shut the people up you don't want to listen to.

I'm a gamer myself and I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot barge pole attached to another pole of similar length....theres a line that shouldn't be crossed....this one hit it and kept going.

That's just it. I think the way to say no to games like this are simply not to buy them. Of course there will be sales, some by parents of 8 year olds that have no problem supplying same 8 y/o with the entire GTA series, Doom, or whatever else the little brat wants.

Exactly PT :(

And then when something goes wrong, people are gonna blame videogames. Again.

Why can't anyone ever accept that it's their own actions that are to blame and not the music they listen to, the movies they watch or the games they play?

Bleh....

While I agree that sick people are sick people regardless of what they watch, listen to, or play on a game, why feed the demon?

I was the stereotypical long haired metal freak in the 80s/90s. As a teenager and beyond I idolized the Blackie Lawlesses/Gene Simmonses/Dee Sniders of the world. I stalwartly defended their onstage antics as showmanship, marketing, and even freedom of expression. Still do. But even then, I thought some folks took it too far for my own personal taste. Slayer, for instance. It was and is my opinion that they crossed a line between freedom of expression and just plain old bad taste. Still, they had and have a right to portray themselves in whatever light they choose.

I apply the same thought process here. I feel that this video game delves into the realm of poor taste. Should it be pulled from the shelf? No. Would I allow it in my home? No, unless the kid in residence could intelligently explain to me in words of her own composition the difference between what the game re-enacts and the reality of the murder of an American president. Unless she could clearly state in her own words that while she enjoys a certain element or aspect of the game, she is fully cognizent of the tragedy behind it and that she does not endorse any underlying ideaology that might be associated with it. Then and only then would I be OK with her having it.

Hey, I despise the music this kid listens to when she thinks we aren't listening. When her mom or I are around, it's bad enough by my standards (spoonfed mindless pop without an ounce of originality or purpose, performed by plastic copycat soon-to-be-has-beens who don't write it or play a single instrument). When she thinks we are out of earshot, it's rap-crap. I don't approve of it, but so long as she remains able to effectively speak the English language without axing me questions or blinging me to submission, I can give her that much freedom. When she can no longer express her ideas in a coherent fashion, Snoop Puppy Farts or whatever has to go.

Sorry for dwelling more on music than gaming....it's more my realm. Same standards apply with me though... :nerd:

Fo shizzle my whizzle

That's a post that could be framed and well hung on on a wall.

How old is this young Lady?

*in best Beavis/Butthead voice* Huh huh huh...you said well hung...huh huh huh huh...

She's 11, going on 16, going on 7. Classic tweener, too big to be little, too young to be as old as she wants to be...

I dread the next 6 years. Sigh.

It's just a game. Exactly what's so terrible? How does this differ from any of the games where you kill Hitler, Bin Laden, or Bill Gates?

Having successfully transitioned one male through said transition and observing his contemporaries (of both sexes) my best advice is:

Discuss and direct adult issues. Be willing to get a lot of gray hairs.

The worse thing I saw parents do ran along the lines of:
oh she'll find out about that in college.
This was from the Mom of my Son's then 13-14 year old GF. lol

Yep how a child was raised and who they 'are' when they enter the tweener phase normally portends what type of adult you will have standing in front of you 6-7 years from now. Sure hope the SEX talk was embedded years ago Buddy.
11 is to late to start lol.

Actually I was thinking that earlier from the other side.....what about medal of honour? It basically endorses the killing of germans if people want to look at it from that standpoint.....

uh-huh, good point

The difference is the supposedly moral one set up between who society labels as the 'good' guy and who society labels as the 'bad'. The more demand there is for people wanting to 'pretend' to be somebody, the more supply there is of that in the market. It just now happens to be that more people fantasise about what it would be like to be the bad guy and so there is an emerging market for it - no matter how controversial that might be.

Therefore, what is it, 41 or so years since the assasination and people think hell, wouldn't it be good to make a game that gets in the mind of the sniper! what a great idea and its finally safe to do it - 40 years have passed - and now americans are in a state of paranoia. Whats more, with the consipiracy theories etc over the actual event, and current cultural obsession with terorrism, makes the release of such a game even more perfect. Isn't there other games that help you navigate planes into certain U.S landmarks? well, there you go.

And if you did happen to buy such a product and indulge in such games good for you...that doesn't make you a psycopath, it makes you a gamer interested in cashing in on this type of product. Whether or not it has anything to do with inciting actual violence/terrorism etc is a completely different issue. The only issue here is the one of coorporations cashing in on cultural hysteria. The only way to object is not to complain outright about the morality of it all - but to simply not buy the product, if there ceases to be a demand for something like that, then it will be displaced for the next hyped up idea, such as world war three or global warming. But I'm sure thats probably already been done :alienhuh:
