I hate computers

Specifically, those that refuse to operate on the network after I install an SB Live!

UGH.

Windows 98 blows goats (sorry Shadow :D)

How do I fix this?

I know it happened sometime just after I installed the SB Live drivers because I had to download them somehow. I guess next time I rebooted, it stopped connecting to the LAN. The router sees the network card and gives it an IP, but the computer doesn't recognize any networks. It can't connect to the web either. I took out the SB Live and it still doesn't work. :(

I'm running a SB live & LAN & it all works. It's just you flurffboy:D

try ipconfig & see if it's doing anything

This is Win98, Gonz, there is no ipconfig. It's a 98lite install, so most of the stuff ain't there. I just know that before I tried installing the SB Live it all worked.

OK, went into 98lite setup and installed the TCP/IP utilities. I did winipcfg and here's what I get:

PPP Adapter: 0.0.0.0 in IP address and Subnet mask

ELNK3 Ethernet Adapter: 192.168.1.102 IP (third on my network), 255.255.255.0 subnet, 192.168.1.1 gateway (router IP)

Get a new nic. That's what Gonz always tells me to do :D

I'm posting from the machine with the "baaad" nic :p

can you ping another puter? If yes, then you might have a problem with the netbios configuration.

Yes, I can ping. And oddly, I can now access the internet, just not browse the network. :retard:

just not browse the network
Spoke too soon. It's browsing the network now. WTF? The lights on my router still indicate it doesn't have access to the network. I haven't rebooted it yet.

If you can ping and browse the internet then it isn't a NIC problem.

Configuring win98 to work with 2k/XP networking can be a pain in the arse.

What OSes are on the other comps?
If it's xp,and 2000 you may have to create new shares.
And make sure you are logged on with the Exact user, and
password.
Also make sure the workgroup name is spelled correctly.
