all this stuff is scary to think about... and so many of us have had eye injuries too, that's weird.
Yeah, I almost lost one of my eyes when I was about 5. My mom had brought home a rose bush that was planted in a coffee can. When she went to set it out, she took a can opener (the pointy kind that makes a 'V' in the lid) and went all the way around the bottom of the can making V's in it until she could just pop the bottom out. (I have no idea why she did it that way.) The bottom of the can then looked like a large throwing star with too many points. She put it in the garbage, but it fell out on the side of the road when the garbage men picked it up.
A friend of mine and I were playing in the street sometime afterwards and he picked it. He said, "hey, look at my flying saucer," and threw it up in the air. It went up, and came right back down and hit me in the eye. I had to go to the emergency room to have the eye cleaned out and examined. It had made a cut in it, but I can't remember where exactly it hit (pupil or white part). They put patches over both my eyes and I had to wear those for several weeks while the cut healed. This was sometime during the Spring, so my mom has some very pathetic pictures of me holding an Easter basket with patches over both eyes. In one of them I'm trying to lift up one of the patches so I can see to find an Easter egg. Talk about sad...
