LOS ANGELES — Explosives were looted from the Al-Qaqaa (search) ammunitions site in Iraq while outnumbered U.S. soldiers assigned to guard the materials watched helplessly, soldiers told the Los Angeles Times.

About a dozen U.S. troops were guarding the sprawling facility in the weeks after the April 2003 fall of Baghdad when Iraqi looters raided the site, the newspaper quoted a group of unidentified soldiers as saying. U.S. Army reservists and National Guardsmen witnessed the looting and some soldiers sent messages to commanders in Baghdad requesting help, but received no reply, they said.

Let me clarify something AGAIN.

The story was NOT put out by FOX News. The story was put out by the Associated Press. FOX just picked it up from the AP. Here is the same story from CNN.

That's exactly what I've been wonder all this time.
Why didn't they drop some Jdams on those suckers right off, at the beginning of the war?

I was thinking the same thing when i first heard about this myself. But someone with some explosive knowledge told me that would have been a bad idea because all it would have done is destroy maybe 10 or 20 percent of the supply if yer lucky and free all the rest by destroying the containment cells and shooting plastique all over the iraqi desert where it could be easily scooped up by every insurgent (and old man and 10 year old kid) who happened across it.

Why is this thread still alive. It's those that live in the past that are doomed to relive the future. Who give's a shit?! Tomorrow should be concerned with today not yesterday.

yeah who gives a shit if insurgents use it to blow up our soldiers or entire hotels filled with people. who cares!
