I don't know if I like this technology...
sourceWhen it comes to getting through the long lines at Pearson International Airport, the eyes have it. Or they will, once authorities begin using an iris scanning device to fast track passengers through the terminals. The device is designed to allow pre-screened low risk flyers to get past the red tape of customs and security checks in minutes - and without hassles.
To be eligible, a passenger would first fill out a form, provide their fingerprints, agree to underground an extensive background check, and pay a still unset annual registration fee. Once that's done and the applicant is approved, the scanner would do the rest. It's programmed to recognize the unique characteristics of the iris, which are said to be even more unique than fingerprints. When the machine recognizes who you are, it allows you to bypass the normal channels, and offers freer access to areas of the airport for which you'd normally have to await clearance.
The device is believed to be virtually fool-proof, and is designed for both speed and security. But don't get ready to be a line jumper just yet. While the technology is on the premises, it won't actually be put into use until sometime next spring.
