Oh, crap - this one could be trouble. If we are lucky, it will bear up to the northeast and spin up into the Atlantic. If not, the northern Bahamas and south Florida are in for an ass-whuppin'. I must make a decision soon whether or not to move my boat to get it out of the way of this beast.

How much did you pay for the boat?

USD $110k. Corsair is a 42' Whitby staysail ketch, built in Ft. Myers, Florida. I bought her from an elderly couple who grew too old to handle her.

Have I mentionned that I hate you?:D

Unless she's insured up the mast, I'd not take any chances. But I'm cautious by nature.

BTW, posts some photos so I can hate you more fully.

C'mon, be a MAN. Sail that mofo right into this little storm & put your skills to the test :D

Insurance is for pessimists. :lloyd:

I don't have any photos of her on this work computer, but I'll see if I have something on a CD at home.

Meanwhile, here's a couple of stock photos of some of her sisters ripped off of google images:

(hehe - the first one is flying a Canadian ensign)

:lol2:

Um, note the part of that chart where it says, "Max Winds 145 mph Gusts 180 mph . . . :eek13:

Sailing intentionally into that requires something entirely different from "skills". :D :D

Yeah, a good sharp rap across the head, for starters.

BTW, sharky, I'm Scotish, not a Canuk. I just live here. If you find one flying the St-Andrews cross, I'll hate you completely.

oi, she's an ugly old hag, ain't she? just keep her out of the gulf, sharky, i don't want her!

You've got that right. Go away, Izzy!

Everybody in Florida on the boat nets have their fingers and toes crossed - this one has us nervous. Historically, hurricanes on Isabel's current track took a northeasterly turn just above the latitude she is presently approaching. But you never really know for sure what one will do.

i rode out erin and opal, and isadore, and one on the ship when i was in the nav but i don't remember it's name. don't care to ever see another.

Just knowing the storm surge that's gonna get kicked up would have me running her to shelter already. You've ice water for blood, dude.

You are right about the surge - it does as much if not more damage to the coast as the wind, generally. All you can do for your boat is to take her as far upriver as possible, and tie her up good, strip her of all of her sails and gear, and batten down the hatches. If necessary I'll take Corsair up into the cypress swamps where she won't be battered if she gets tossed about.

I have a little time to see what the track trend will do before taking action. If Izzy heads for the Gulf of Mexico, the ice water in my veins will most assuredly thaw.

Let me take back the "be a man" comment...this is just amazing

Isn't that incredible? What an awesome force of nature. The low continues to deepen, and as it does, she picks up strength. Picture the vortex in your toilet bowl (poor analogy, I know). That is what is happening on a HUGE scale.

The satellite image spells it out.
