A construction firm owner in England who wanted to advertise for an English-speaking carpenter was told his ad was racist and might be a violation of the law, according to the BBC.
Dean Osmon, of Kent, wanted the ad at the local Jobcentre to read: "Must be able to understand English, written and verbal, as will be dealing with clients in residential and business premises."
But a reply from the Jobcentre's diversity and race equality team said the advert was unacceptable. "You informed the contact center you were not willing to employ anyone who did not speak English," the letter said. "Where employers discriminate against job applicants on the basis of race, they may be in breach of the Race Relations Act."
The Department for Work and Pensions, however, overruled the local agency and said the language restrictions are acceptable.

Well I can certainly see why anyone would be upset here. I mean, who in their right minds would want to live in a house built by someone who actually understood the blueprints and verbal instuctions given to the man building it? It's not like he needs to know what he's hearing or reading or anything.
