Ozhio has learned not to mock the SUPERGONZO driving skills &knowledge of the law.

I BEAT THOSE SOBs in court today on a speeding ticket I received in March. Superior knowledge of their state law & an oral argument worthy of OJ's dream team scared the cop so bad he didn't even show up in court :headbang:

The DA, instead of asking for an extension, took one look at me & my stack of notes & immediately asked for a dismissal. Scared that babe to death, although, I could see from the look in her eyes that she wanted me bad...I'm as happily married as a guy can be so I had to politely express disinterest.

Then, on the way home (about 200 miles), I saw over 25 Ozhio cops busily working their radar guns & going after people with less skills.

I've learned one thing about defending yourself against speeding tickets... if the cop shows up, you pay the ticket. If he doesn't, case dismissed.

I actually went into court with a speeding ticket for 7mph over, and a notarized Mercedes dealer work statement stating that my speedometer had been checked after the ticket and was found to be reading precisely 7mph over and I had paid to have it callibrated. This is what the judge actually told me: "statistics show that the average person has sped and gotten away with it 400 times for every speeding ticket they are given... even if you were innocent this time, you have been guilty before and will be guilty again."

I paid the ticket. I'm still pissed about that, but since I didn't have a lawyer with me, and didn't feel like spending more money than the ticked cost, I just gave in and let it be.

With a red convertible sports car, I'm like a HP magnet. It sucks.

That is worthy of an appeal & the judge losing his robe.

Absolutely. But after having already taken a day off work and driving three hundred miles to defend myself the first time, I realized it would probably cost me less in the long run to simply pay the damn ticket. Justice would have been seeing the judge booted for such a thing... but not at my expense. :(

On a similar note: I have been watching a program on BBC TV over here called "Bailiffs" - about people not paying their parking fines. I cannot believe that there are people stupid enough to let it go unpaid long enough for the bailiffs to get their hands on it... one guy got a ticket for £30 and ended up paying over £800 for the original fine, court and bailiffs fees. That's just lunacy!

They nail us for parking fines when we renew our tags. I got a lovely $150.00 surprise last year because the old boy got a few tickets he "forgot" to mention. :grumpy:

The Fresno State campus cops keep track of how many unpaid parking tickets you have. If they write you a fifth one, they put a device on your car's wheel that keeps you from moving the car until you pay all the tickets. You have until 9 that night, or they'll tow your car at your expense.

They comb our street because there's 88 houses and 86 legal parking spaces with about 12 illegal ones (handicapped, fire hydrant or crosswalk). Double the cars equals double the tickets.

The dreaded Denver Boot :headbang:

Oh we get those for parking in the wrong place too and private land is usually patrolled by car clampers... it costs an arm and a leg to get upclamped and they will escort you to the cashpoint if necessary!

Having a disabled badge means that I can't legally be clamped or recieve a parking ticket when I'm parked on a public road (within the special rules that apply)... but I can get a ticket for obstruction as I discovered once much to my disgust! :(

I'm always very careful where I park these days.
