Justice Delayed...

is a political coverup.

To be honest, I've been listening to a book on tape all week & haven'tr kept up with the news. Tom DeLays Grand Jury Indictiment (no, that does not say finding of guilt) is still outside my jurisdiction of understanding (I've read nothing but the headline so far). HOWEVER, this makes me want to put the story in it's correct context...next to the kitty litter in the trash.

A grand jury in Travis County, Texas, last September indicted eight corporations in connection with the DeLay investigation. All were charged with making illegal contributions (Texas law forbids corporate giving to political campaigns). Since then, however, [Travis County, Texas prosecutor Ronnie] Earle has agreed to dismiss charges against four of the companies — retail giant Sears, the restaurant chain Cracker Barrel, the Internet company Questerra, and the collection company Diversified Collection Services — after the companies pledged to contribute to a program designed to publicize Earle's belief that corporate involvement in politics is harmful to American democracy.

Last time I checked, that was called extortion.

Another of the oddities of this indictment...it's for Criminal Conspiracy, not, as described by several key Democrats, Money Laundering.

Gotta love politics.

O'Reilly Factor for Children? (j/k)

Seriously, they all do it. Delay's depredations have been a little too widespread and they needs to take him down a bit. He'll be censured, and he won't be majority leader anymore but he won't lose his seat. He'll appear suitably chagrined and business will go on as before. The political parties of those involved has no bearing whatsoever. Both parties want everyone to think it does though.

You're right about one thing, he won't be convicted of anything criminal.

hehehe

WASHINGTON -- The money that led to the indictment this week of two Las Vegas pastors and the wife of one of them came from federal grants arranged by Sen. Harry Reid in September 2001, a Reid spokeswoman said Wednesday.

ps-I have no use for O'Reilly. The day he allows his victims to answer a question is the day I may rethink that position.

I watch him for the same reason I watch The Daily Show. It's damned funny.

Deeper & deeper this goes. I'm waiting for the email to/from HOward Dean

Ronnie Earle acknowledged that prosecutors presented their case to three grand juries — not just the two they had discussed — and one grand jury refused to indict DeLay.

"It just gets worse and worse," DeGuerin said. "He's gone to three grand juries over four days. Where does it stop?"

Then prosecutors tried again Monday with a new grand jury.

When Monday's grand jury, impaneled by District Judge Brenda Kennedy, a Democrat, reported for its first day, Earle was there to ask them to indict the second most powerful Texan in Washington.

About four hours later, the new felony indictments were returned.

It turns out the law that DeLay had broken...wasn't even a law when the money changed hands.

All this while a film crew was finishing up a movie about Ronnies life.Maybe he just wanted a better ending.

I don't know whether Delay's guilty of anything or not. If he's guilty of money laundering (the new charge  ) then prove it and jail him. If he's not, STFU.

Either way, I'll tell you this: if this was a republican prosecutor and a democratic senator, you'd be hearing roof-raising screams from many quarters, the loudest of which being the press. Since it's the other way around, though......
